16:48 I bet the workers building that R32 would have no idea these cars would run for almost six decades. It's amazing how everything Budd makes (R32, Hi-Level, Amfleet, Slumbercoach, Great Dome, etc.) becomes not just a classic, but an icon and legend

The Amfleets are getting close to 50 years of service and the R32's and Hi-Levels both reached that age before retirement! Only time Budd has major flops, it was never to do with their structure. Just look at the Metroliners!

I'd say the Independent R1-R9s were some of the best..most dependable, rugged, time-tested rapid transit units to ever serve for the NYCTA! So glad a number of them were spared the scrapper's torches, were refurbished, and now used as fan trip cars!! Would love to ride them again!!

I grew up in New York City. My fondest memories are of the IRT Lo-V subway cars. I am more familiar with the Lexington Ave live. Especially the Lexington Ave express from 125th Street to 42nd Street. The sound that they made as they picked up speed. I went to high school in Manhattan and would wait for a Lo-V when they began to switch over to the newer subway cars. This presentation was excellent.

I'm glad that the R32 & the R42 had both retired for good last year because they both are too old for service. Also the R110A & R110B discontinued due to some low ridership, back in the 1990s and the early to mid-2000s, the Redbirds had retired and one more thing, the R38 & the R40 are both retired because they both are too old for ridership and it will make that closing doors sound like the R44, R46, R68, R68A, R143, R160A, R160A-1, R160B, R179, R179-1 and coming soon, the R211, starting next year

HELLO STAN AND JACK. IT'S GREAT TO SEE THE BOTH OF YOU AGAIN; JOHN R. I OPERATED ALL OF THE TRAINS IN THE MUSEUM EXCEPT THE GATE CARS. THE R32 CARS WERE THE ABSOLUTE BEST HANDLING, ESPECIALLY IN BRAKING, AND THE R10 CARS WERE 2ND BEST, IN MY OPINION. THE Q CARS WERE THE WORST DUE TO OLD TECHNOLOGY. BUT I DID MANAGE TO RIDE, AS A PASSENGER, ON THE LAST Q CAR TRAIN IN PASSENGER SERVICE FROM JAY ST, TO METROPOLITAN AVE. THE R44 CARS WERE THE ABSOLUTE WORST DISASTER TO HIT NEW YORK CITY. NOBODY, INCLUDING CAR EQUIPMENT, KNEW HOW THEY WORKED. THEN, BECAUSE OF CRACKS IN THE UNDERCARRIAGES, ALL R44 CARS WERE REMOVED FROM SERVICE AND REPLACED WITH OLD R9 CARS UNTIL THEY WERE TOTALLY REMODELED.

The worst ever was the R44 Hydraulic cars/train they ran on the A and D lines. They made no noise when the motorman release the brakes to move forward, as oppose to the non hydraulic version that would ex-spell aloud bow before moving. As bad as the non hydraulic was, the hydraulic was even more unreliable. It would lay down anytime at the blink of an eye.

Well, I disagree with the narrator saying it put NYC on the map as being it's first great public work. The Brooklyn Bridge and the aquaduct pre-date the IRT and they were remarkable achievements.

This a lie, the London Subway ( Underground) is much older. They first started to run in 1862 powered by steam trains. In 1890 electric trains were introduced. The subway tracks in London run much deeper underground. By 1863 the subway system in London was opened to the public, Londoners used the subway to travel to and from work and social events. In 1863 America was still fighting a civil war.

The R142S were a supplemental fleet for the existing R142 and R142A fleet. The base order of the R142A consisted of 400 cars, all to be assigned to the 6 line. The 400 cars retired the R29 and R33 cars on the 6 line and displaced the R62As to the 7, to retire the R36 Worlds Fair cars. Another option order of about 120 cars was placed to complete full retirement of the R36 WF cars. These 120 cars were assigned to the 4 line, which displaced the R62s to the 3 route, which then went to the 7 to fully replace the R36 WF cars.
