Did... Until they made an exclusive contract with GM Holden. Now Holden is gone and variety is creeping back in as Skoda takes their place.

with the Skodas coming in at first I didnt like them at all, but the more I see them around the nicer they look. Good bitta variety.

I never knew they had Galaxy LTD as top cops car..!Dogs had Falcon panels as well in the 90s..

In the older years, i thought each stripe colours patrolled different duties. That yellow was in charge of traffic, and orange of criminals

Highway Patrol & General Duties

NZ police and MOT use to have a variety of different makes and models of vehicles, and today the same applies. Throughout NZ you will see a different variety of patrol cars, etc. what you see roaming around today are cheap budget vehicles of up to 3.0ltr petrol or diesel powered motor vehicles in police livery with all the bells and whistles. They are all graded in 3 levels A to C. A grade vehicles are the newest which are used as front line vehicles which only lasts up to 12 to 36 months or depending on condition. They are Ford, Holden, Skoda, VW, Hyundai, and Toyota vehicles which are common police patrol vehicles that everyone gets to see everyday. What you don’t see but is not seen a lot by many are a full sized Chevrolet Silverado 3500 double cab 6.2 Ltr V8 mufti pickup truck, Toyota Landcruiser VX, Nissan Patrol 4WD, Chevrolet Suburban, Ford F-250 powered by a powerful V8, and a few hidden top secret makes and models I’m not allowed to comment here.

they are fairly easy to spot they have little round led lights fitted into the rear and front bumper and most have plain white lights behind the grill or in the window.

In the early 80s the MoT also used Accords and Cortinas, mostly Cortinas though.

I have seen pics, but I can't recall seeing those ones in the flesh. The VH Commodores and V3000s is as far back as my memory goes!

Quoting Wikipedia: "HQ production in New Zealand was at GMNZ's assembly plant at Trentham, Wellington, New Zealand using some NZ production components and ran until 1975 to use up HQ parts that weren't used on the following Holden HJ series". Interesting!

The information on the sign said the PM's car was handed down to the police commissioner and the light bar was fitted later, but many of those signs have glaring errors in them.

After 2000 they changed the colors on the police cars to skitt och fult !! (white & yellow) in several countries. I want it gone! Looks like shit. I why should police cars even be visable it's not an ambulance or firetrack. You suppose to catch criminals 🤬😡👎
