Literally googled “cars in caves uk” and dozens of articles came up saying it was no more than 100 cars and it’s just somewhere people dumped old cars forty/fifty years ago. This dude clearly doesn’t do any research saying there’s a 1000 cars and some look new and no one knows how they got there

The first and probably the best video on this cave, which I watched years ago, stated that the property owner offered a car disposal service. For a fee he would dispose of cars. None were new. They were wrecked when they were dumped in there. It's messed up but not a mystery.

Sorry if this has already been posted, but the cars you can see under the water are a Saab 96, Vauxhall Viva HB and an Austin 1100. Some of the other cars in there include a maroon Ford Corsair, a couple of Mk2 Cortina Estates, Ford Capri Mk1, Hillman Imp, Green Triumph 1500, Triumph Herald, Hillman Hunter, Morris Marina Van, Morris Oxford.

I did some research and when the mine closed in 1960 the nearby residents used it as a dumping ground.Chucking down cars and household items through the hole where the light come through

It's interesting, but if you asked a resident that lives in the area, you'd find out that rather than taking things to the junkyard, people were dumping their cars, tv's, random junk, even that sword down the mine due to laziness. Basically it's not mysterious.

In the 70s and the 80s the price off scrap was so low that you were charged to scrap cars so people used to dump them in deep holes in the uk.

This happened all over the UK when we became a throwaway society in the 1960's & 1970's, people dumped things anywhere they couldn't see them, in the sea, mines, buried in the garden ETC ... when the canals in cities stopped being used commercially they also became full of unwanted stuff including cars. Looking after the environment has become more popular & scrap metal is more valuable now too.

Cars like elephants know they are about to die. So they sneak off alone, to be at peace. Sadly thousands upon thousands of cars just "disappear" every year, without any trace. R.I.P. old friends, Car Heaven is no junkyard. Batteries never run out. There is gas for all.

This place is literally off the chart, I cannot believe this place is in my country it's just insane. If someone told me about this Cavern of Lost Souls I would not, could not believe them or it. Well done getting in and out safely Josh, you were definitely in good hands!

I love how authentic these are. Like this is real, you don't insist it was haunted or use Ouija boards or just fake stuff for the views. Its truly about appreciating places like these and loving what your doing. And dude, exploring is hard; when friends and I do it we go to like 3-5 duds before we find a place we can explore.

Every cave explorer every cave-this is the most dangerous cave I’ve ever explored...

Somebody should run one of the license plates or if they can get a VIN number and see the background on the car and maybe figure out more of where they came from.

This has to be by far my favorite exploring video so far! I have loved automobiles from a real young age. The fact there is 100’s of cars in a cave and nobody knows why, it’s crazy! Thank you for sharing this beautiful place with us so we know this place exists!

Wow, where do I start? Firstly, this place ain't some big secret: Anyone in the caving world has known of this place for decades, as do all of the people who live in the locality.... None of whom call it by the silly name you use: they use the name that the mine had when it was operational. Of course people know why the cars are there: They are end of life vehicles which were dumped because it was the easiest way of getting rid..... and this is certainly not the only place in the country where old cars have been dumped down mine shafts. Countless explorers have visited this place, but by showing to the world - and that includes the land owner and the local community council - that you have not taken even basic safety precautions or even worn suitable clothing, you are increasing the chances of the place being sealed up for good - thus depriving other responsible explorers from being able to enjoy this spectacle. Anyone with any sense - anyone with the skills you'd expect from an explorer - will SRT in (look it up if you don't know what SRT is) - quicker, safer, and less hassle - than scrambling down a slippery wet slate slope without even a helmet to protect you from banging your head or if you dislodge a piece of stone onto the person below. 200 feet drop, really? That's why a 90 foot rope easily reaches the bottom then, even once all the knots are tied! Loving the mask - clearly you don't appreciate that the key air quality risks in such places are low oxygen or hydrogen sulphide - neither of which can be protected against by use of that mask. So it was you who left the glow sticks down there and discarded yet more boats - breaking the code of true explorers: Take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints - thanks for leaving the evidence trail behind as you go on to your next gloryspunk likechasing mission. King Arthur's sword found inside a mine - or is it a cave? - make your mind up! ...In a MINE whose working life lingered on, according to an easily obtainable local history book on the subject, into the 1970s? And you claim to give your viewers the true history? Think about what you are saying, take all the time that you need. Sick of seeing really cool places filled in / sealed off / bulldozed / blown up because people like you have spunked them over the internet. Learn to use discretion.

You can look it up. The cars were dumped for a reason. States online that the council once used that cave for a dumping ground for cars, refrigerators, old tv's, and other household items.

Towards the end I felt like I was watching “the Goonies” movie. L.o.L

I spoke to my dad about this as he lived in the area apparently it was a huge insurance scam as most people only had fire and theft insurance they paid to have their car stolen and then would claim on the insurance this is one of the sites the cars got dumped in.

This is corris i was born and raised there. I know the place well. Old mine shafts used as a rubbish dump nothin more than that.

It's crazy to think that everything in these places he visits, was once mint condition. Every car in this cave was once brand new, the mine cart at the beginning of the video was once used regularly by workers. The teapot once sat in a kitchen of a house torn down years ago. But since forgotten. Likely to never see the sky again, living on only in this video. Josh you keep these places alive. Record it's history and preserve its future. Legend has it, the mining continued until they struck a poisonous underwater pocket which overflowed and killed all the miners in the lower levels. It became known as "The Tavern of Lost Souls" and eventually, the cars of the miners who lived there were just pushed into the caverns opening and the opening was covered in rocks & dirt to try and seal the cavern off. Some believe it was a spirit who possessed the mind of a miner to dig where he shouldn't have.

I couldn’t find any comments identifying the types of cars in the cave, so for whoever is interested, here goes. In the water, the car on its side and nearest to the camera looks like the rear of one of the BMC ADO16 cars (e.g. Austin/Morris 1100 or 1300), with a Saab 96 above it. The car resting on the Saab matches the shape of a Vauxhall Victor 101, but I can’t be certain. Above the water I saw two Mark 2 Ford Cortinas (a pale blue estate and the rear of a dark blue saloon, on its side behind the estate one), the rear of a Triumph Dolomite (dark green, under the Cortina Estate), a Mark 1 Ford Capri (same pale blue, the car that one climber fell into), a Ford Corsair (maroon red - the one in the foreground that they climbed over) and under the Corsair, one of the BMC Farina cars (grey, an Austin Cambridge I think). Finally at the far side, a black Mini van (not a Mini Clubman as stated by one of the climbers). The rest were too mangled, buried or submerged to identify from the footage. All of those identified seem to be of late 1960s or early 1970s vintage.

I will sleep easy at night knowing i will never have to do this again...... 😅
