in this video number {1002A} SMPS not working ||SMPS has no output voltage|| SMPS not powering on || SMPS Not Turning ON. i explained how to troubleshoot, test and repair UC3842 current mode smps controller ic based switch mode power supply circuit to provide 12 Volt 5 ampere in flyback topology. this 3842 ic belongs to a complete family of KA3842, KA2842, KA1842, UC3842, UC2842, UC1842, TL3842, MIC38HC42, UC3843, KA3843, TL3843, MIC38HC43, UC3844, KA3844, TL3844, MIC38HC44, UC3845, KA3845, TL3845, MIC38HC45, all the above mentioned ics have approximately similar circuits. i found the smps controller, vcc capacitor, vcc rectifier, and 2x zener rectifiers, and one SCR in protection circuit.

I think that IC has got damaged due to snubber diode failure.

might be, most of time snubber diode failure causes to saturate the core and creates spikes, that also cause to increase in vcc voltage that may be a reason for IC failure. otherwise these chips are most failure items and sometimes snubber diode failure cause to damage the mosfet as well

I believe placing the diode on the bottom of the circuitboard will cause poor heat dissipation and premature failure.

14:45 I think you should regulate it to 12.00V, ONLY when you have some load connected. otherwise you set it to 12.00 without load, but then when you connect someting it will drop down.

you can see his desoldering iron at the top of the video,the turquoise handled Weller. maybe it was full or clogged so he went to solder wick.

Kindly assist I have a big challenge to power up the uc3842 I want to design a DC to dv buck converter with a minimum voltage of 36v and maximum is 100v I watched your video on start up resistor for uc3842 after adding my calculated resistor value the voltage at pin 7 is only 8v hence can't power the IC . Dear Sir, kindly mention if you have time, what are reasons might be the cause of voltage down from 5v to 1.4v of pin8 of IC 3844? no need details explanation. only mention in very short technically to spend less time to reply or you can reply during any next video to save time. it depends on package code if it is SOD523 or SOD123 package from Philips and Central Semiconductor, is 3.3 volt zener same marking and same package code from Luguang Electronic Technology / Vishay Semiconductor / Taiwan Semiconductor Company is 36 Volt zener SOD323, SOD123, SOD523 package from Comchip Technology if for 9 volt zener please confirm the package style in your circuit
