It’s getting dangerous on the roads now, especially where there’s tree cover that puts potholes and cracks in the shadows, I’ve had a couple of very sketchy situations recently but just managed to avoid an off! The Varia radar is proving more important than ever these days for knowing what’s around while swerving big old holes!

That’s a nice spackled effect jersey. I refuse to wear my pure white jerseys in uk anymore. They are solely reserved for holidays abroad for this very reason

Did you switch mid-way through the ride from a white jersey to a white with black polka dots jersey? 🙂 Kidding, assume it was from the spray from the puddles on the road. For a relatively beginner cyclist, you have made incredible progress. Obviously you have the huge general fitness from your high level running. When it comes to cycling culture, maybe as the years go by you might learn to appreciate the simplicity of the more old school/retro aspects of cycling - e.g. mechanical gears, rim brakes, tubes, just charge the lights and Garmin (and GoPros in your case) etc. Or, perhaps like the great majority of cyclists today, you will just keep getting all the latest upgrades. There are pros and cons to each! Anyway, keep up the great work. BTW, I have always thought that the roads were bad her in Norway, but after following other cyclists living in the UK and how often they have a puncture I have nothing to complain about! I haven't had a puncture in several of years (famous last words!).

Sounds stressful... Kind of makes me want to keep going with my mechanical groupset and inner tubes.

Herts roads are a disgrace! They do the tar & gravel slap dash job every year and it makes the roads unbearable in places, especially the lanes which get a lot of use by bigger vehicles. A terrible false economy and very dangerous in places.
