SOLAR panel technology is still not mature for india. The usable solar spectral part is too less in the cheaper ones and the costlier ones are still barely 10%. The semiconductors that convert sunlight into electrical energy are seen as inefficient as they only capture a fraction of the light they get. Solar panels will never reach even 50% efficiency bcz the amount of visible light produced by the sun in the very beginning is not even 50%, its 40% just and the rest is heat and UV. Most ppl who live in urban areas can still afford the costlier panels but most urban areas are apartment based and shared spaces, with this poor efficiency too much space is devoted for too little output. Then there is heat .. the hotter the panel gets the lesser the output. And India is v hot . Then dust accumulation and rain water residue will reduce output drastically. Obviously the inverter is converting DC from panel to 240AC and losing a huge power loss as heat. Finally the 4Lakh(for 5KW) that u invested will never give u 4L worth electricity in the next 5yrs and by the next 5yrs those solar panels will lose further efficiency from the already tiny 7-8% that it does now. And u will be trapped into buying more and newer panels, wiring, frames, inverter, meter etc after 5 yrs again n again.
