Fun fact I was in the 5th movie (Dead Men Tell No Tales). I was on the ship that Will Turner was captain of. I was a background character who was ripped. I had so much fun meeting Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. Also the song that was sung at the beginning of the third movie was actually done by prisoners in Barbados.

One more fact about The Flying Dutchman. The Flying Dutchman is a legend in the Netherlands with the capitain Willem van der Decker. The story goes about a captain in the VOC era. On first day of Easter he left with his ship en crew. But after the clocktower ringed, everyone on the deck froze and the ship changed and disapeared. After a while the ship was known as The Flying Dutchman. Nobody around that place wanted to sail there. Just as a little FYI, it was Klaus Badelt who did the scoring on the first movie and came up with the best theme song to a movie ever created and was not actually Zimmer. Don't get me wrong, I love Zimmer and I think he is an incredible composer, but Badelt gets such little credit and often gets forgot for his incredible work. If it makes you feel any better, Hans did make a trailer score that was used during the promotion of the first movie, but it doesn't have the main theme from the Pirates movies.

In 1717, Blackbeard captured the ship from the French when it was known as La Concorde. It was carrying a cargo of slaves at the time, so Blackbeard sailed it south through the Caribbean before freeing all the slaves on the island of Bequia. Correction and fun fact time. The Monkey Island game was actually based on the book On Stranger Tides also. BTW you mintion that the 4th movie takes place in 1750. The book took place in 1718 which was also the year that Blackbeard died off the coast of South Carolina when he was trapped and sunk the Queen Anne's Revenge on purpose. It still lays there today and is owned by the state of SC now.
