That was a good and easy to understand presentation. I bought mine because my old one was wearing out and did not have several functions like bag dispenser from the roll. Actually I have had it for quite awhile but was a bit intimidated by it even after watching a couple of videos. I have continued to use my old one even though it works sporadically. Thank you for your clear demonstration on the exact model that I have. (that was a part of the problem I could not find a video that matched my FoodSaver.) Now I feel equipped and ready to go. Thanks.

I have this exact Foodsaver vacuum sealer. I just love it! I had the previous model 4980 which was great but this new 5480 is better since it has two sealers built-in so you don't have to wait for it to cool down. 👍🏾

We really enjoy our vacuum sealer. It is great for freezing meats with their marinades and we can go from the freezer to our sous vide water bath. The result is wonderful and the flavour enhancement is second to none. It is great for our minute meal setup for the two of us. All your ideas just minutes of work with hours of slow cooking. Flavourful foods in mind for us time poor individuals or those whose health prohibits hours of standing in the kitchen. Wish you many meals of flavour Dennis. Another great video. Xx

The FoodSaver I have is 20 years old, I have repaired it 3 times in 20 years. That hose port braking off is a new one, I have not seen that happen before. The main thing that goes on FoodSaver is seals and pump motors. I replaced all the internal plastic hoses with silicone. I hope you get another 16 years out of this new one.

I really really wanted the food saver but don't have much money so I just got the crenova v62 yesterday. It's only a tiny one (more of a starter one) It doesn't have a dry/wet option and it doesnt cut the bags but it came with some bags and it has the tube for doing the jars. My dehydrator comes tomorrow

I cannot believe this, but Foodsaver discontinued their 5000 series, and went cheap. I'm feeling lucky that I have my 5480, which has not failed me yet. Not once. But now that I learned the situation with Foodsaver, it looks like I'll have to take the commercial route if I want the same quality. Sad.

Hi again Mea. I use an impulse heat sealer and poly tubing for my Minute Meal portions. I like the vacuum sealer for cuts of meat like steak and ribs. If anyone reading this is wondering about Minutes Meals, I have a ten-part series beginning here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l9mAp9p8rd_Vnac.html . I call them Minute Meals because I can go from freezer to plate of hot food in under 6 minutes, and it's a plate of balanced nutrition - protein plus two vegetables. How does it handle wet food? Tried the FM2000 and it sucked when sealing wet food. Wouldn't seal properly once liquid creeped up t ok seal area.

Yes you can, but liquids are tricky. The vacuum will suck them up into the machine and make a mess. For liquids it is better to use the "quick seal" function.

Hi Michael. I can't even guess at the cost because it depends on how long you cut them, depending on what goes in the bag. They're on a roll. -Dennis

The reason i'm asking is because i am trying to determine whether it is worthwhile to invest in a vacuum chamber where it costs only pennies per bag for each use.

The box of rolls has 1 8-inch roll 20 feet long and 4 11-inch rolls 16 feet long. Plus there are 36 quart size bags. I would estimate an average bag length would be about 10 inches. I rarely use my FoodSaver, partly because the bags are expensive and mostly because vacuum sealing isn't necessary. I use my impulse heat sealer and poly tubing instead, both of which are available on Amazon. Depends on the amount you buy. A package 2 rolls of 11" x16' costs about $18. The more quantity package you buy, the cheaper.
