I don't care about redundant uses. I don't care about mislabeling of vehicles. What impresses me about this video is how functional this family is. Teenagers (I'm assuming) that WANT to be involved in a video with THEIR DAD? Unheard of. Keep up the good work--meanwhile I'm surrounding my whole house with zombie paracord tripwire.

DO NOT USE 550 CORD AS A TOURNIQUET. CLS class we are taught that it is not wide enough, and will cut the skin before being able to distribute enough pressure to cut off blood flow. you will make a new injury. if you put cardboard or a magazine of something under it that can spread out the pressure 1-2", then you can use the 550 to apply the pressure, but NOT BY ITSELF.

I am a former combat medic and CLS Instructor. Using 550 cord with something underneath to spread the pressure out is too unstable and would likely fail. A shirt, crevats, or any cloth and something that you can use to twist and tighten would be a proper improvised tourniquet.

I am a mom just sitting at home having fun making paracord bracelets and cruising through youtube. I especially like seeing the dynamics and humor with you and your kids and family. Some of the ideas were for more cord than what comes in a "survival bracelet", but like you said, it's a good idea to buy a hundred feet or so & include it in your backpack. Thanks for the fun video. There is another first aid use for the inner strands which I didn't notice here. If you take a thread, pop it through a needle, lance a blister with the needle (in one side, out the other; leaving two holes) leaving the thread within the blister. You can then plaster (band aid?) the area, leaving the string ends hanging out. They wick away moisture from the blister as it arrives. This isn't a method I'd personally advise from experience but a lot of friends swear by it!

101 things you can attach to a string

Just a note for people unfamiliar with load ratings on cord and rope. 550 is the Average or minimum breaking strength. If using anything for life support, you should weigh less than 1/10 of the average breaking strength. 550/10=55. It may work once, emphasis on may, but the cord will then be stressed and break even easier. This is the same for heavy towing or hoisting applications. Find rope that is rated at least ten times the weight it will be holding and inspect it regularly. There is always an equal and opposite action to every action. Hoisting and tying off to an anchor point will double the weight stress on the rope.

To be fair strapping is an extremely valuable use of paracord, so it makes sense to repeat just to show that you can basically replace any carrying device with paracord :)

One inner strand 4 or 5 ft long with a 3/4" x 5" ish can be used like you showed cutting a groove to cut PVC plumbing pipe. This is great for a pipe in a trench where you can't get a saw. The strand can be passed under the pipe, grab the handles and start cutting. (Nylon mason's line will work too.)

THANK YOU for making the video 101 paracord uses. It was very informative. I like your family's since of togetherness and witt ! Here's something you can add to your list. Cut a 3' piece of paracord and tie the ends using an Improved Blood Knot. You can put the knot out to the side and then tie a figure 8 knot close to the end of the pulled loop forming a pocket for your carabiner. (never have the Blood-Knot at the end. There are many uses for this set-up. Pass the lanyard around a limb, before you cut it off a tree and snap the carabiner to a rope tied to your chipper and when the limb gets sawed off, it zip-lines to the chipper...no dragging. You can pass it around a tree and back thru itself and use the carabiner as a quick disconnect for a ridge line, or to hang your pack from a tree. You can also use it as a Prussic for rescue (You need 3. One for each foot and one for your chest. You might ought to braid 3 pieces of paracord together for these rescue rope climbers. I wouldn't trust my weight to one piece by itself) ! Cut a 12" piece of paracord and burn the ends. Wrap your spears and gigs till you have 6 wraps to go, and double tge 12" piece and lay it on your wrappings. Continue to wrap over it till you only have 2" left. Stick that tail thru the loop and pull the loop tails, QUICKLY, while holding pressure on the tag-line end, with your thumb. Cut off the excess. Save the foot long piece for future wrapping. This works much better than the standard bushcraft over-wrap and pull method. Hope you enjoy-joy these. Bill, from Tn. 🇺🇸

I just watched a show on the weather channel in which the guide used the inner strings to make a net for fishing. Between the para cord and some sticks fashioned into a racquet style holder, he channeled a stream between some rocks, and placed the net in the mouth. Coughs a lot of leaves, and a couple of fish!

This is a good informative video. It has a tongue in cheek style. The part where he tries to suspend his pack, and end up gathering firewood, was funny but at the same time showed the need to adapt to any situation.

Hilarious and at the same time exactly what I was looking for 101 ways to use a paracord... I don't know why people are saying not to use it as a tourniquet, if it's all we have at the time it's exactly what we need. Something is better than nothing until you get medical treatment. Either way thank you and your family for this video.

A long lanyard to retrieve the knife you just threw (alternate fishing method too as well as repelling zombies)...serious martial art skills, to make nunchucks. To pad a makiwara board, or bind your hands for Thai kickboxing, embedding them with glass for the more serious fights (saw it in a Van Damme movie). Make fingerless gloves for repelling. Make a webbed seat for a zip line or Tyrolean traverse. Make a Christmas Wreath for the front door or over the fire place or both, great gift idea.

# 102..if you find yourself unexpectedly kidnapped and bound by zip ties/flex cuffs you can take the paracord you're using as shoes strings and it will saw through the zip tie material like a knife. Great video, I learned some new uses for 550 cord.. new subscriber :-)

Build a raft to escape the zombies and sail, sail away, oh yah, to secure the sail to the raft. To make a hammock. Make a fish net from the inner strands. Build snow shoes. Make a basketball net. Webbing to catch a ball, play djubi or build a kendama. A net for tennis, badminton. Build a snow sled, a suspension bridge. Transport gear across a stream or a ravine. Use strands for a fishing bow. Make webbing for boots to go over ice/traction webbing. Wrap a bicycle tire for traction in snow.

Those were some good ideas to get people's imagination working. Here's a few more quite practical uses in a survival situation: you can use as a belt (especially if not proficient at acquiring food...lol), you can make a gill net for fishing or large net for catching game (works especially well for birds), make a gun sling, suspend a needle as a makeshift compass (inner strand)

Ok I've got 3. Tie an antenna down. A key keeper. And a watch band loop. We had to tie antennas down to keep em from hitting overpasses when the vehicle was loaded on a flat bed. As a key keeper I use it on a carabiner and clip the carabiner to my pocket, the 550 cord keeps the key from working its way outside of the pocket and possibly falling off, actually happened. Wire works better though when bound down under tension and keeps the key ring below the jaws, zero chance of loosing your keys unless its worked unclipped. and lastly, my watch band loop broke. Instead of fiddling with leather or glues and resins I just tied some on there in a neat design.

The video is fun and educational. I think the moving target can be improved. Add a second strap to the target and pull it sideways.

A NET!!! For containers like back our shoulder-slung containers you can use the full paracord strand; for smaller, more tightly woven nets for fishing, you can break down the paracord and use the internal strands. But dude - a net must be in that list. Unbelievably versatile, made in all sizes for all manner of uses. Big oversight. Also great vid - informative and entertaining. btw, cute family; you must be doing something right, dad :)

You can also use the sheath of the paracord as a make-shift condom in case if you've forgotten to bring your own.

You said zipper pull twice and tied down a log and jacket to the top of the same bag but I like the presentation. You may do another and add paracord protective sleeve for headphones (remove the guts and replace with head phone wire), replacement watch band, and it can be woven into a hammock. I have also used it as a bow string for archery (re-curve with 80lbs pull) and a bow string with spindle for fire starting.

in cadets we discussed using 550 cordage as a tourney kit and the medics advised not to as its too thin and would cause more complication but hey great video, amusing and educational... thumbs up

Build a Native American Dream Catcher. Make a neck strap for glasses and sunglasses tied to the ear. The outer webbing to pad a the nose piece on a pair of glasses. Slit the outer webbing for a cloth patch using some superglue or mole skin on a blister. I've used just superglue on blisters with or without the old skin. A cute toe ring to accessorize with the wood flip flops made earlier. A wedding ring for a true pioneer couple. Tie flowers for the wedding bouquets. Tie wedding decorations.
