That's not true. Ford was the FIRST company to request and receive money, months before the big bailout. If I remember correctly, it was to retool a plant to start a new hybrid. And ,ford's ceo said at that time that if GM and Chrysler did not receive the LOAN from the government they would fail as well. The reason for this is that all three owned automotive parts supplier's money they did not have, and without it no more parts could be manufactured. GM and Chrysler saved ford's butt.

Ford was lucky Ronald Reagan didn't want to go down in history as the president who let Ford go under. Ford hid a deadly transmission defect for several years in the late 70's/early 80's. Ford couldn't survive having to recall all of the years defective and deadly (300 people died as a result) automobiles they had sold for over 5 years with this deadly transmission defect. This is when Reagan decided to bypass federal recall laws, and instead of making Ford recall all of those years' defective and deadly vehicles, NONE of them were recalled. Instead, they were allowed to mail warning decals to the owners who were supposed to affix them to the dashboard warning all vehicle occupants they were riding in a potentially deadly vehicle. It always makes me laugh whenever Ford fanboys profess Ford has never been bailed out by the government. They have selective amnesia when it comes to that late 70's early 80's time period. Ford actually fired executives who brought the issue to their attention years before it was finally brought to light. I guess they thought the issue would fix itself or in time just simply go away. At least they were prosecuted for the hundreds of deaths that occurred over those years. In more recent Ford news, Ford is on a recall hot streak. They are currently the auto manufacturer leading the industry in recalls THREE years in a row.

@@KevinSerratos-ts4vw You have to wonder who got paid off for letting that one slide. I vaguely recall the stories on the news when I was a kid. Interestingly enough, my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee had a recall for the same reason. Now if you open a door while it's in gear, the computer immediately puts it in park. It's a decent safety feature, but it makes it hard if you're backing up a trailer in a tight spot and want to crack the door open to check your clearances🙂. I have owned a lot of Fords and have overall been happy with them, but they sure have screwed their customers. The Explorers rolling over, the 04-10 F150 cam phasers, the old 3.8 V6 head gasket issues and now the Ecoboost cam phaser issues. Seems like they aren't beta testing well enough and aren't using decent Q.C. I'm looking to replace my 14 Grand Cherokee (worst reliability of any vehicle I've ever owned-it's an Ecodiesel) and I'm afraid I may be stuck with a boring Toyota as I'm not sure I trust any of the domestics.

Had highschool teacher who bought the red model. Also remember the Pinto sport wagon with stripes and the round bubble window on the rear side.

Kinda like the Chevy's Corvair, huh? Nader got rich publicizing a supposed flaw in it's suspension. I forget who started the Pinto thing, but during that time period, nearly *every* automobile had the gasoline tank in the same location. In fact, many cars had the filler behind the pull down license plate. The exception was pickup trucks who had their gas tank inside the cab, behind the seat! Pinto's real problem was being a cheap, economical car on a highway filled with road locomotives. Don't get the impression I liked the Pinto, I didn't. I liked land yachts.

I wont get any new American cars they are built to fail and have no resell value. My 2003 eclipse has more resale then most of those cars. Its all user choice I have no hate towards them I just had issues with those cars. Drive what u like. I just wont ever own one because in my opinion they are trash.
