101 Year-Old Skier - George Jedenoff - The Optimist

At 101 and a half years old, George Jedenoff is back skiing Utah. This year we take a look at George's exercise program that he credits with keeping himself in shape to ski. From stretching to jogging to situps, George religiously sticks to his exercise routine and completes it every morning before breakfast.
George's other secret to his longevity is his optimistic attitude that he says he's had all his life. "Don't let your problems get you down" George says. "Stay positive."

George, you are such an inspiration to me and I suspect many, many others. I am 71, still skiing relatively aggressively and I feel like I'm 50. When I think about skiing when I'm 100 (or older), I think no way. But watching you just makes me giddy. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I gotta admit this has moved me. I'm 59, and I've been skiing since I was a little kid. 2 years ago I crashed and broke my pelvis skiing. 6 weeks ago I had a hip replacement because of that injury. I was starting to tell myself I should just do something else than ski from now on. You've made me think again. Thanks George!

I’m so glad George is still rockin. I’ve been watching his videos for the last few years and I’ve been waiting patiently for an update. Well here it is and I’m so happy to see him skiing again! Keep enjoying life!

This has brought tears to my eyes! I will download this video and keep it forever as a reminder and motivation. I started skiing when I was 3 years old. Now I am 39. It makes me feel good to know that if I do the right things that you said, I might be like you one day. I wish you many happy years of skiing George. I forwarded this to my dad who is 70. He is a hardcore skier just like you. This video will be a great motivation for him too, I am sure.

@@skiutah Thank you very much! :) We are going to do our best to make it happen. Only if I can make him exercise like Mr. Jedenoff haha. Btw, we both enjoyed skiing in Utah. I visited SLC twice and I skied Park City, Deer Valley and Alta. Beautiful mountains you got there!

George, this is just what I was searching for to give me inspiration. I am almost 70, and still trying to keep active with my skiing, and then I see you! Fantastic! I love your technique and had those same exact Salomon rear-entry boots about 30-40 years ago myself - best boot I ever had. My knees, back, etc. still seem good, so I should also do some exercise sets everyday like you to keep in shape. I still love the double-diamonds and hope I do not hurt myself, but will keep at it as long as I can.

His form is quite good- especially on the groomers. It's not just the exercise routine that allows him to ski at 101, it's good technque.

George took lessons in the early 60’s from Alf Engen, one of the truly great skiers, instructors, and promoters of skiing since the late 1930’s. I believe Alf actually designed the trails at not only Alta, but Snowbird and many other resorts as well.

My wife’s great uncle Short stopped skiing at 90. That became my goal since I am now 66. I just need to do morning stretches to keep limber and not use skiing to get in shape to ski!
