Using Gold Lustre (or Gold Luster - or precious metals) on pottery can make them shine in a very special way.
I use real gold - 24 carat in a 10% solution, brush it on and fire the pots a thrid time. This melts the fold and leave the pot with a smooth and shiny gold surface.
In this video I will show you how to prepare your pottery for gold lustre, how to apply and fire it.

Dear Mikkel, this is a comment about all that I have found on your channel not only on this particular topic about gold lustre. By far you are my favorite ''Mad Scientist"' . actually the only one. You are so passionate and so dedicated to what you do, it can be easily noticed that everything you do is so natural ( of course backed by your entire work and experiences) and in the most kind, selfless way , you are giving us everything , like placing your soul on a plate, and helping us to see the simplicity and to get courage and confidence to do this things. Thank you very much indeed for being ..... I just leave it so ...for being.🤓

Very interesting. I wonder if the gold lustre would work on the pitfired pots if you burnished the area to be lustred?

Thanks for the video. I remember my mom using this on her ceramics. Too bad it didn't work on the pit fired vase; it's still beautiful though. Take care, be well

Thank you for your video. By painting a layer of clear glaze and then gold luster over the top, I'm wondering if the pit fired vessels may be a successful result.

Thanks. Unless its a low fire glaze it is likely to burn off the pitfire colors. And if its low fire it may remelt with the lusyre

Absolutely beautiful. How many coats would you say you applied to each. Also, the first one you did you ran your finger across it, may I ask why you did that? Thanks so much.

Thanks for sharing, I’m wondering if we put some low fire glaze on a third fire of a pit fire pot and then on a fourth fire add the gold, what do you think?

It's possible you could use gold leaf on the pit fired pots and then coat it with a protectant.
@deMibPottery

How did you get the crackle effect on the second pot? Could that be done on sculptures? Before the application of the luster…

That is made with sodium silucate. If you search for this and textures in my video you will find several videos about it

What firing schedule did you use as I’ve seen one that says 100 C an hour to 750 and others that say it only takes 3 hours to fire which would be 250 C per hour to 750 so I’m confused. Thank you for any advice you can give. 😊
@deMibPottery
@deMibPottery Жыл бұрын
I more or less just give it full speed to 750

Hi there , Thank you so much for your video. If isn’t much to ask , what can I dilute the liquid gold with ? Mine is old and very thick. Also , I have gold leaf … can it be turned into liquid form with an agent ( chemical ? Lastly , where do I buy liquid gold please ? Thank you kindly
@deMibPottery
@deMibPottery 7 ай бұрын
You have to use the same liquid that was used in the gold lustre you have. Most pottery stores that sell it also sell this. I am not sure if you can turn gold leafs liquid. Never tried I buy mine from Carl Jäger in Germany.

I have some 24 k gold powder that I made from sanding a bit off of a chunk of gold I have. Is there a way I can use it to decorate my pottery? Golds melting temp is 1945 F I think. Any ideas anybody?

I'm guessing that's an old bottle of luster? The new ones over here come in itty bitty bottles, like 2 grams and go for $50 on the 'low' end. Brilliant process nonetheless. Makes a guy want to try their hand at some alchemy. 👍
