A friend of mine who lives nearby used to own a busy coffee shop. Every week he delivered large garbage bags of coffee spent weighted over 50Kg to me. Those days I could generously till the coffee spent into my veggie patch and compost heap. 200m away across the road from home is a horse riding school. I got free horse manure from it a few times. But the waste was packed in big bags weighted over 50kg each. To put them in the trunk of my sedan needed heavy lifting. Absolutely not worth the risk of breaking my back. I am using sheep manure these days. Unlike other manure which has compost mixed in, it is no frill real shit. The bad thing is it contains indigested grass/weed seed.

I make my own organic liquid fertiliser, mainly fish emulsion and 'unconventional' chicken poo tea. I asked fishmonger to just descale the fish so that I could keep the offal. I used to get raw chicken manure delivered directly from chicken farm in bags of 20 for $5 each. Few years back the delivery man couldn't get any fresh chicken manure but the equivalent pellets selling in Bunnings. Those pellets are more expensive yet less potent. You need lactobacillus to quicken fish 'composting' and reduce bad odour. Molasses added to fish emulsion is to keep bacteria alive but you got to have the right bacteria first.

In late 1980's snow pea (Holland pea in HK) was not common and it was very expensive to buy in Sydney, around AUD$20/kg in those days money. My grandmother was able to grow the snow pea from the backyard, and for dinner just pick enough peas to make a dish. In my current house I have a lemon tree which has very sweet lemon, but have to be quick to harvest as the parrots will eat them from the tree and ruin them in an afternoon.

Just put your homemade compost in a perforated laundry bag and soak it in water for a week or so.. I used a worn laundry basket. Surprisingly Ikea is still selling that product.
