@evilpemis yeah this song has some weird meanings. I do like the song but I'm not a fan of the right leaning and nationalistic theme. I'm genuinely hoping that the song is just made to sound nationalistic/militaristic and KuroUsa isn't actually a Japanese nationalist.
@adambrande
@adambrande Жыл бұрын
@@goofboof1284lmao why is a man being proud of his nation a bad thing? This song is clearly nationalistic and there's nothing wrong with that. You act as if the only thing nationalism did for Japan was make it the warmongering nation it is in WW2 when nationalism was also responsible for it's development from a feudal state to a modernized one in the late 19th century.
@goofboof1284
@goofboof1284 Жыл бұрын
@adambrande nationalism ≠ patriotism Being proud of your country and heritage is not the same as being devoted to one specific group(in this case, those that have Japanese heritage). Being a nationalist is a problem because you're only devoted to one specific group, and that's a problem. This song glamorizes imperialistic, nationalistic, and militaristic values, and has anti-foreign sentiment. This song also glorifies the Meiji and Taishō eras, which are often praised for being "authentically Japanese" Defending nationalistic and imperialistic values(especially when it's coming from a far right country like Japan) is still bad, it doesn't matter if anything "good" came out of it

A little thing I just realized. Miku's skirt is held up by suspenders, which is the traditional way of just about all militaries to have their uniform trousers remain up in lieu of a belt. That is attention to detail and I love it.

The moral of this song: make love, not war. War consumes all and those who are left live in constant fear of more war (the cage of steel) and eventually begin to prepare for more war (the guillotine) and look for ways to end it as decisively and swiftly as possible (the raygun)

This song is actually a bit sad. You can understand it by looking at the lyrics: 日の丸印の二輪車転がし / Riding a two-wheeled vehicle with the rising sun emblem 悪霊退散ICBM / Dispelling evil spirits with ICBMs 環状線を走り抜けて / Passing through the circular line 東奔西走なんのその / It's just going back and forth It speaks of Japan's modern democratization under U.S. command, still unable to escape the shadows of servitude and war (ICBM = intercontinental ballistic missile), but note that it uses "evil spirits begone" (implying the U.S. security umbrella) instead of its own military force. 少年少女、戦国無双 / Boys and girls, unrivaled in the Warring States 浮世の随に / Following the trends of the world 千本桜、夜ニ紛レ / Thousands of cherry blossoms, lost in the night 君ノ声モ届カナイヨ / Your voice can't even reach here 此処は宴、鋼の檻 / This is a feast, a steel cage その断頭台で見下ろして / Look down from that guillotine 三千世界、常世之暗 / Three thousand worlds, darkness of the afterlife 歎ク唄モ聞コエナイヨ / Even the lamenting songs can't be heard 青藍の空、遥か彼方 / Azure sky, far beyond その光線銃で打ち抜いて / Pierce through with that ray gun Here it is said that those who die in battle become fertilizer for thousands of cherry trees but are forgotten (melting into the night), even the voices of the departed cannot be heard. There are various interpretations, but most people would agree that the innocents sacrificed in war are forgotten, only able to "melt into the night" under the cherry trees. "Cage of steel" refers to the wartime nationalistic military system; the meaning of "guillotine" is very clear, that is, the murderous war machine; the "ray gun" (originally 光線銃) suggests the atomic bombs and incendiary bombs dropped by Americans. We must remember that the suffering of the people during WWII was ultimately ended by atomic bombs. This year marks the 71st anniversary of the end of "that war" (a term used in Japan to reluctantly refer to WWII, showing how much they detest war). Especially at this time, we should remember. Particularly the relatives of those who died in the war, who could only say "Mr. XX died for the Emperor’s honor," how twisted human nature can be, truly "Even the song of lament cannot be heard." Only a few extreme right-wing nationalists might see this as a reason to fight and reclaim honor, but most people, especially in the Chinese-speaking regions, would certainly not see it that way. 百戦錬磨の見た目は将校 / The appearance of a seasoned officer いったりきたりの花魁道中 / The hustle and bustle of the courtesan procession アイツもコイツも皆で集まれ / Let him and her gather together 聖者の行進 わんっ つー さん しっ / The march of saints, one, two, three, four This passage, when viewed with the accompanying video, first has a blackout with "black rests", followed by the appearance of soldiers, geishas, students, and other Western-dressed individuals, representing various aspects of Japan (military, cultural, educational, etc.), accompanied by relatively obscure imagery and dark tones (卍 宅魔 卍, 2011), representing the prelude to war, where no one can stop the advance of those who claim to be "saints" (homophonic with righteous or evil, living beings), saying "One Two Three Four" (the first two represent the more Westernized Meiji and Taisho eras, sung in Japanese, three and four representing pre and post-WWII Japan of the Showa era). Here, we can mention the Incident of February 26th, which led Japan into total war: The Incident of February 26th, 1936, occurred on February 26th, 1936, in Japan, involving a rebellion of 1,483 young army officers, a failed coup d'état launched by Imperial Way Faction military personnel. Basically, both factions supported Japanese militarism, but the control faction led by Hideki Tojo used this opportunity to purge the opposing Imperial Way Faction's political power. The Imperial Way Faction consisted mostly of radical mid-level young officers, while the control faction consisted mostly of senior officers. The Imperial Way Faction believed that the Japanese Emperor was surrounded by "bad people" and couldn't know the suffering of the people, so they needed to "cleanse" and abolish the cabinet, making the Emperor a military dictator similar to Hitler. However, the control faction successfully suppressed the Imperial Way Faction, but also used the opportunity to sideline civilian oversight. The control faction successfully suppressed the Imperial Way Faction, but also used the opportunity to sideline civilian elected cabinets, all military ministers were replaced by active-duty military personnel, further transforming Japan into a fascist war machine state, which fully invaded China after the July 7th Marco Polo Bridge Incident in 1937, and then declared war on Britain and America in 1941, heading south to fight in Southeast Asia. 禅定门を潜り抜けて / Sneaking through the Zen gate 安楽浄土厄払い / Purging evil and avoiding disasters in the Pure Land of Bliss きっと終幕は大団円 / Surely, the ending is a grand finale 拍手の合間に / In the midst of applause The result? The path of the saints is blocked, the entire army is wiped out, and the grand finale is because everyone has died. Isn't this the greatest irony? Isn't this the biggest slap in the face to all the militarists who initiated and prevented the February 26th Incident in 1936? All sentient beings have gone to the "Pure Land", leaving only monks to "dispel misfortune and avoid evil", because no one can stop those who claim to be saints and their so-called righteous and evil plans. What good is applause? If there was any bellicose sentiment earlier, it's all sunk now! Because everything is gone, in the video, the phrase "grand finale" is displayed first, then the hope of Japanization is dashed by women dressed in kimono and Western lace carrying Western pastries.

Finally someone understands that this song is more of a critique on imperialist Japan rather than glorifying it. It's essentially an anti-war song. There's a lot of required knowledge on Japanese history to understand what this song means so I understand why a lot of English speakers take it at face value. Tbh the translation 'steal cage' 'voice can't reach' 'guillotine' should have given people a clue.

Hey so I grew up in Japan from 2008-2014 and in middle school a lot of my classmates would go to karaoke to sing Senbonzakura and other vocaloid songs that we’re popular during 2011-2014. When I asked them what the song meant they didn’t really know and said it just sounded cool. The lyrics are mostly consisted of old fashioned Japanese words that no one really uses anymore.

Miku, Rin, and Len: *Rebels against the occupation* Meiko and Kaito: *Spies against the government in disguises* Luka: *A very stupid waitress who eats the concrete*
@joannamysluk8623
@joannamysluk8623 3 жыл бұрын
Um, actually, according to most theories, it was Miku and Kaito who stirred up a rebellion, there's another song related to this one, sung by Kaito. The Kagamines are supposed to just be normal children, Luka is a waitress (and a background character forcefully squeezed in for the sake of including all the Cryptonloids in the PV) ad Meiko is an Oiran, which is a type of prostitute.
@dragonsamurai559
@dragonsamurai559 3 жыл бұрын
@@joannamysluk8623 I think the song includes the Oiran because she's doubling as a spy. Luka was in the original PV for two scenes as a waitress, but she never eats the pavement

Are you sure? How I see it, it just depends on what the course is often called. (I'm calling it a course assuming you learned it throughout some form of school..? Either way, props to you for sticking with Japanese for so long!) In my school, any year pass your first year of Spanish (Spanish was the only secondary language course we were offered) was considered advanced, despite the fact that some of the years didn't teach you enough to be *technically* classified as that. I have a friend who went to a school were courses that were of a high level were classified as intense, I suppose it really just depends on where you're learning, doesn't it? (I'm not at all trying to belittle the time you spent learning Japanese, I find it to be impressive! This isn't meant to be a hateful reply, just a little something I'd like to add on.) Question, though: Would it be called "Intense Japanese" rather than "Advanced Japanese" purely because it's Japanese and not another language?
