I heard this tone at a Penn Station ECS restaurant, and I assume it’s from a specific machine there. I initially thought there was an emergency after hearing the tone from this video. The restaurant did have a SpectrAlert Classic, but the Classics make a different sound.

The campus emergency air raid sirens at Virginia Tech sounded similar when there was a small tornado this past Spring. I never knew how the power was boosted on the sirens so more could be alerted, but the system has saved lives.

I noticed both the orange and white strobes. I noticed that also at Philadelphia Airport with the Simplex True Alerts. So I think the white strobe is for fire emergency and the orange for other emergencies.

They use it for general emergency signaling such as severe weather, active shooter, etc. Those amber signaling systems are commonly used in military bases

Yes, you’re correct. Philadelphia airport definitely has an interesting fire alarm system, that’s for sure.

The pull station is connected to the alert relay, it's not wired into the FACP.

I would think the white strobe would flash for a fire and the orange one for a tornado. Or maybe the other way around. Idk.

yeah since this is a voice system the white one would flash for a fire announcement and the orange one would flash for a tornado announcement or some other announcement.

My dorm building has these same types of alarms. I believe the orange light glows as a way to indicate where the fire was detected. So on the alarm that is closest to the detector that, well, detected that smoke, that orange light will glow. It's a good way for the Fire Department to find out whose bitch ass was smoking in their room :)

+KingBowser24 Amber strobes are used for other alerts typically. Most systems now, especially the ones with these units, would be addressable, so they would be able to find out where and when the alarm was initiated.

My grandma lives in Florida and when she gets a hurricane she is prepared cause she has hurricane supplies and lots of it so yeah they do get lots of them.
