This was posted two years ago. I sincerely hope SD shelter has gotten their act together.

This story really frustrates me, in several ways. I see incredible ignorance in these people who think its enough to drop a cat off and then after covering the cost of medical evaluations, surgeries, recovery time , boarding, feeding, grooming that every single cat will be adopted out by someone else. If you care so much about the cat …. So much that you would rather put the time into hurting the reputation of the organization that does THE MOST work providing care to ALL the animals (domestic & wild) in the state of california, rather than stepping up to TAKE PART in and BE ONE of those people the SDHS clearly needs to either foster a cat & help promote the cat to be adopted. Think about it, if instead of posting on social media about how horrible the SDHS is… if you could instead put effort into doing exactly what WOULD fix the problem they face with having so many cats brought in but not enough picking them up. Advocate for the cats by posting about them to your followers and friends and family and co workers etc. Foster they temporarily until they are rehomed. Put the story out there, promote them in a way that would benefit everyone. And as for the smaller private cat rescue organizations… why not reach out to the SDHS and extend your services in the area of adoption or recovery? Put time into positive LIKE MINDED work that helps to accomplish what would be considered ideal instead of discrediting the countless hours of really good work done by animal care / animal advocacy workers and so many volunteers throughout sd county for animals coming from all over the state (& country). I just can’t see the logic in a person thinking they are justified to be mad at SDHS for this …. When they could look at it as a reason they should get involved by stepping up the effort together.

Yeah y'all need to try to adopt some of them poor kitties out where they would not run the streets they need a home

That is not humane!How wealthy is San Diego?look at the beautiful building .While volunteers and day to day staff on the floor prioritize animals I cannot help but wonder how much of budget is swallowed by administration.They have no excuse for this.Good for the people filing law suit .

Don't abuse the kitty's. They need as much respect and succurity and compassion to our cats and unconditional love and safety. This is cruel and not far to our cats. Cats are gifts from the universe to love and take care of with good pet parents and a safe home.

Is the person filing the law suit willing to house and care for all those cats? Sure, it would be great to take in every animal, but that is an enormous expense and they are already overcrowded. Besides cat colonies keep mice and rats down.

Nearly 2500 cats/ year is a huge number to be released every year. Cats don't fare well in the wild and often die miserable deaths, with injuries or diseases. This is a terrible program; it's completely false that the policy is good for the community or wildlife. Outdoor cats also kill huge numbers of birds.

SDHS gave us a cat with all kinds of medical issues. We specifically asked for a cat with no known medical issues. After we brought up the issues in hand all SDHS could say was ‘Oh you can give him back ‘. Traumatic for cat and children. Stay away from SDHS
