The ole reliable Goliath unloader. We had one of those in our 20x70 when we filled it with haylage. Now we have a Laidig unloader in it and we fill it with whole kernel himoisture corn.

Loved the video. We had a Laidig unloader in our sealed stave unit. Never seen one of these pulled out before, although I've heard about it. Bottom unloaders come with maintenance for sure. My dad always said our Laidig meant; "lay there and dig!"

Thanks for showing we had a wooden silo growing up I was to young but remember Dad climbing up and throwing silage out pulled it down was a lot of great tongue and groove 2#6 in it.We do have a ag bagger now do 9#200 bags.

Hey Dairyman! Just wanted to let you know that your channel is my new favorite farming channel. I like how you show the nitty-gritty "nuts & bolts" of everyday farming, and not the fancy fluff like some channels do. You are very humble, and your Dad is too, and you all are such hard workers, but yet you maintain a great sense of humor, and still love life. I am curious though if you have any hired help or if it is just you and your Dad that do all the work? I know you hire custom harvesting, but do you have hired help for the day to day operations? Really enjoying your channel so much!

You should lay a towel across the cable of your pulley. If that cable breaks it will significantly reduce the speed of the whip and less chance of hurting someone.

I'm sure glad we have a concrete silo and don't have to mess with bottom unloaders, it is so much easier, faster, and less expensive to use a fork and throw it down!

Once the cutter arm goes around 2 or 3 times (short armed or not) a large cavity (10 to15 Ft. high) is formed. The cutter arm has to cut through only the outside 2 1/2 to 3 feet of feed, the center loosely falls down as the unit is emptying. All bottom armed unloaders do the same thing. Any time, it’s a lot easier working on the ground then going up them ------g silo chutes! I know, I did it for way too many years!

You are a great motivation for us, really enjoy your videos, always waiting for new one. Our dairy farm is located in Poland (eastern Europe) and we farm sth about 70 ha which is 180 acres. We've got about 30 milking cows, 20 heifers and about 20 bulls at now. Upgrading our farm is in progress our biggest obstacle are buildings but we re trying to deal with it. We like these wooden constructions which aren't so popular in Poland as in the USA. We want to have 40 milking cows soon however it all depends on money so dad calculate it thoroughly to make some smart investitions. We appreciate your great work and as I see a Bible with you I advise you to read The Proverbs of Salomon, chapter 10: 1-5. Watching your vids we also hope to see some equipment which may be useful and have a wider range of information about crops etc. We purchased a bobcat skid loader S 175 a few weeks before we started watching your videos and we fully agree with you that skid loader is a great thing and our loader also has controls like in your I mean bucket control in pedals. What a pitty that you live so far away, otherwise we will go and see you working, but maybe one day... We are glad that we found you on You Tube, keep sharing the videos, we are waiting. If you can get your bobcat outside the door, make a square tube extension you can attach to the out load assembly then use the bobcat to pull it out and return. You won't need the come along. Just a thought.

I always hated working on the goliath unloaders. Well doing any work in the bottom of the blue silos.

When u say dome. Does that mean there is a empty space in there? If so what stops it from collapsing down. Aso why do you need that dome?

The harvestor silo is a love hate relationship. Luckily our dealership we use is reasonable to work on ours. Balege is really looking better

Yo man I would love to work on y’all farm for a bit. Just to get that experience. I’ll be driving across the country and just trying to make an adventure out of it.

In 30 plus years our 25/80 was short armed once, when it was new ( part of purchase price). Fed every day, very few problems. Because of the tons of haylage we put through it, serviced it every 4 months, learned a few tricks, nu.1; replace 1 overarm cutter every 8 months, no pined arm. Wouldn’t do anything different! Put up bunker for corn silage, don’t know if I would do that again🤔.

As a farmer from europe im never gonna understand a Harvestore system compared to just dumping it on a paved surface. But interesting video tho. And of couse you had your Mtn Dew :D

How. Close can you plant or build them silo toghther

In our area whether it's harvestores, staves, or pour concrete silos everyone has quit using these bottom unload types. Only top unload, bunks, bags, and baleage are used. Mainly because no one to service or repair them those unloaders here in NW PA. One guy told me years ago it was a $600 plane ticket plus hotel just for someone to show up. My neighbor has a 20x70 stave silo that unloads from the bottom that's been sitting over half full for the last 15+ years because it'll cost to much to fix and now they no longer milk so it's just a monument.

Hoist do not cost that much, get a 2 or 2 1/2 ton , if that cable would break with that hand made handle you’re doctor bills could be a lot higher. Just a suggestion

There's gotta be a better way than adjusting that monstrocity every time you refill and empty the bin.

I've dealt with top unloaders, but with bottom unloaders does the entire contents of the silo settle down as you use it out.

I don’t really understand why you make it short in the beginning? Why not just leave the unloaded long/extended? And why do you make a dome?

Eric, I have a question about log-arming your Harvester. Why can’t you just leave the long chain ( arm ) all the way out all the time? Why do you need to shorten it before you fill the silo.

How do you get it to slide back in that easy with silage in it

Upright silos are a lot of work and very dangerous.A lot of lives have been lost due to uprights one kid had silage in his lungs when they retrieved his body.I think there should alwayz be two people when working with them.Be careful.

I never have used Harvestor Silos. Can you answer a couple questions? Can you explain why you have to do this long arming? Does your silo have bags in it?

Do you have to do the long arm/short arm? A friend of mind has a poured concrete silo with a Goliath unloader in it. Told me they never had to do this with theirs. Just pulls the unloader out once a year to do maintenance on the chain.

Why can u not keep it full length from the beginning. I am from Ireland I would lik to hav one of them for my silage it has to make great quality stuff
