I remember doing this on my parents farm as a kid and well into my adult years helping Dad. When our silos got full we would usually add another load or 2 on the next day or two because the silage would always settle a couple of doors. Great memories and a great way to grow up.

I had this experience too. Though I was the last of 9 children and my boss was an older brother that took over the Dairy Operation. My Dad had health issues and was not working the farm as much. These are now relics as bunk silos are used by the mostly large operations now.

Great Eric and family for showing all the technical details of the unloading equipment and stuff👌👍 For explaining the agronomical aspects ánd for showing the safety aspects. The latter is underpinned what so sadly happened to colleague farmers working in silo's with gases. Clear, you started the work in the silo by first setting up and starting the blower. That is key. Keep safe, appreciate buddy👍

Had to watch this video as I recognized the Patz unloader. My dad used to sell them. I have adjusted several hundred of these things for myself and other farmers. Brings back a flood of memories. Yeah, when a person was working by yourself and had to do adjustments to the unloader to get it going, to save a trip up and down the silo I'd leave it run and climb down as quickly as possible. Later years we used the hood with the plastic feed tubes, that made going up and down a lot easier and cleaner!

Some of these videos are like watching myself 15 years ago. A young dairy farmer setting up the Patz pack drive. I go up on a Sunday morning and the thing would be buried or a wheel had rotted through. We only have one upright now. Have a ring drive in it. Raised it to the top today, fill it tomorrow. 24 feet of levelling. Thanks for the vidz

To me a Patz 98 is an interesting critter...I swear it was invented by mennonites with the steel wheels. My father and Gary would always joke about guys not replacing a stretched chain or not keeping it tight, then, it would let go and BYE BYE BLOWER! Gary sold Badger.

As a kid on our farm, we had 4 standard concrete silos. Only one had an unloader, I remember it had concrete as the drive wheels. The others had a manual silage fork unloading system operated by yours truly! I was really happy when we got a Harvestore silo, it held almost as much as the 4 concrete silos.

That last machine must be a PATZ unloader the way it looks. They made good heavy unloaders that last. Once you get the height set, it will unload itself all the way to the bottom without a cable hooked to it. Great machine!

Hi, 10:35 the lowest door should be open so the gas can get out. Hope you are staying safe! We used to fill our tower silo and level the silage with an even flow silage distributor. We are so fearful of nitrogen oxide gases we just shut the place down forever. We have tried oxygen tanks with a mask but that's just a lot of hassle to rent each time.
