But then again there was this rugby player called Ron 'Chopper' Harris...
@chelseacharger4 жыл бұрын
@@wildbill6826 Thing is, Ron, despite his reputation, was a good footballer. He'd previously captained England at youth level and was also the youngest ever captain of a Cup Final team, three years before this. And in a 20 year plus playing career, he was never sent off in a league game. That seems amazing but he played in a era where they didn't hold back and it wasn't just defenders. That Leeds team could mix it and there were forwards like Joe Jordan, Bob Latchford, Ron Davies, Joe Royle who gave as good as they got. Ron could certainly dish it out but he was getting whacked too. The irony is that he was limping badly before extra-time in this match and was substituted. In the replay, the injury was aggravated in another challenge but he made it to the end. No complaints from him. Just got on with it.

No diving, no wrestling in the box at corners, no trying to persuade the ref to book an opposing player, no multiple substitutions in the last couple of minutes to waste time, no enormous, athletic giants with no skill or ability, managers who sit on the bench rather than prancing up and down the touchline like spoiled children, just two teams doing their best to score more goals than their opponents. @@craiggerrard5117 exactly. The Wembley pitch was kept for special occasions, internationals and cup finals, and not much else I guess? I really don't know how they turn them out like that, week after week. New techniques of drainage and grass technology or something. I used to go and watch Southampton play at The Dell. What an amazing little stadium that was. The pitch might look all right for the first few matches, but then it would all cut up, and both penalty areas, and beyond, would look more like Bournemouth beach. Many other grounds weren't much better though. Some were worse. Was watching on here just yesterday a programme about Brian Clough. The pitch at the Baseball Ground was literally a mud heap.
