In this lesson, you will learn how to plot points in 3d space using X, Y, and Z coordinates. We will show how to draw XYZ coordinate axes and how to correctly draw points in 3D space. We will then show how a function can be drawn in a 3D graph using a 3D function (a function of two variables X and Y).

Very clear English, very knowledgeable, and man he is so passionate to make his students not only LEARN by head but by heart. I personally thank Professor John ..I have done my math studies more than 60 years ago.. and I like it.. I liked his COLORED pencil. We do not have COLORED pencil before except white CHALK.

Hey, the explanation is good but there's a mistake in plotting point Z in 3-D. The height from the origin to z-axis must be equal to the height from x-axis to z-direction. However in your explanation it is exceeding and marking the point wrong. Please rectify this as a lot of people are learning from your videos. Thanks.

The only problem is that on the Z axis, how are you supposed to be precise? I see from z to y you count specifically (example, (2,5,3) you go to 2 on z, 5 to the right where it lines up with 5 on y, but when going to z, it doesn't seem to count up correctly
@chaoticrampage7946
@chaoticrampage7946 3 жыл бұрын
In this video he graphs the z wrong AF. The zero point for z should start at the xy intersection and count up from that spot. He explains it correctly but then he draws it as tho the z is counted up from the point 0, 0 on the x y axis, which is completely wrong (unless the x and y actually are both 0) and looks weird.
@samuelcampbell1205
@samuelcampbell1205 3 жыл бұрын
@@chaoticrampage7946 right! My teacher made us do the normal grid, but with an extra line influencing the 2nd (positive,positive) and 3rd (negative,negative)and intersects through (0,0). this new line will now be x, the line that used to be x is now y, and the line that should have been y is now z.

@dinnerkinmusicEraEra
@dinnerkinmusicEraEra 4 ай бұрын
I think the plotting of (3,4,5 ) is wrong. The plotting won't be on 5 on the z axis since its moves downward 2 units below the y axis so it'll only move 3 units in the z axis . Thanks. I think you have to make this correction

I just wonder why x and y directions are not the same as in the classical x, y coordinate system, and y is named z ? Would it matter much if x were named z instead ?

This is a very good teacher but at 30:10 both of the Z axis measurements are a little off. Better look at a couple more videos on this before you think you know how this works.
@MathAndScience

Thanks Roy. I know how it works :) I am drawing by hand and the drawing isn't to scale. I think I got the point across though, which was to show how a function of two variables is plotted on a 3D graph. I am not a computer as I am drawing by hand - thanks and good luck in your studies. Jason

Jason, if you look at timestamp 30:10 you have the only video that does not show a 3D box. This is the first video I saw on 3D graphing and I had to find other videos to learn how this works. I have more respect for you than you know but I think this time you should take a closer look at what I'm saying. It needs to be corrected. But if not then OK. I still love you :) and I'll say thank you very much for the lessons on Sin & Cos. 👍✌
@roysmith3198
@roysmith3198 3 жыл бұрын
I just saw one without the box, Professor Leonard. He showed a diagonal line from (0,0,0) to the corner of the square on the (X,Y) plane. Then on the Z axis at the measurement drawing a line parallel to the new diagonal reference line. Then a vertical line.
@MathAndScience
@MathAndScience 3 жыл бұрын
@@roysmith3198 Yes you don't need any box to graph in 3D - it is optional - I chose not to show box. You just need the x, y, and z axis.
