So a great option I'm surprised you don't have and I don't see many people ever even talk about that fits in with a lot of these knives is the coldsteel spike series. My EDC knife 90% of the time is my spike tanto. I have a para cord loop the sheath(in case it falls out of my pocket) and attach it to my carabiner that's on my belt loop that my keys also ride on. Then it just sits in my pocket. The other knife I like to EDC is a kershaw chill, and only reason I ever pick up my chill anymore is if I'm going across the state line or a place I know wouldn't like me carrying around a 4" fixed blade. Also with the loop I have on it I sized it big enough to fit around my head so I can carry it as a neck knife, and I have a couple times and it worked super amazing with a hoody on, didn't print at all and even asked a friend what he thought I was carrying and blew him away

***** I actually really like cold steel, but as far as the "Spike" line of knives is concerned...Not for me. Some people may get into it, but for me, EDC is about multiple use, and conceal-ability. I've handled that knife and it seemed "impractical" to me. More of a dagger/stabby tool than anything else. Folder wise, i'd go with their Voyager or lawman series, but as far as small EDC fixed blades, they may have one, but I can't think of any i've seen that were of note. :/

Fully agree about the size criteria for neck knives. There are lots of knives marketed as neck knives, but they are knives I would never neck carry. I usually do some kind of horizontal carry for anything over 6".

I am from El Salvador (live in the US fro the past 15 years) I have never heard of the CONDOR knives before. Apparently any good thing that my country produces go immediately for international sales. I never saw one of those knives in the 20 + years I lived there. I am sure I could get one dirt cheap down there If I could find it. I will tell my friend to look around for them and check prices. I will post back if he finds something. Good review.

You were doing so well, but then you came to the Necker II. A knife is a very personal thing, probably the only truly personal item in bushcraft, and my personal taste says I I've never hated a knife half as much in my life. I hate everything about it. The biggest knife mistake I've ever made was buying it. The best knife decision I ever made was giving it to a guy I don't particularly like. You had it right with "box cutter". Both of the last two knives make very good box cutters, but I already have a wonderful folding box cutter that cost fifteen bucks, and for another fifteen, I got enough replacement blades to last forty years. I can't do any real knife work with the Necker II, and I'm pretty sure I couldn't with that last knife, either. Whether it's a neck knife, a belt knife, or a pocketknife, if it can't do the real work I need to do, I don't want it. But the Necker II didn't make a good anything for me. It's all purely personal, based on what feels good, looks good, and works well for the kind of tasks each of us do, of course, and that's what make sthe knife world interesting. I love slip jjoint pocketknives, and I have several that are, for slip joints, fairly expensive, with each going over a hundred dollars. A couple well over. One cost two hundred and seventy-five dollars. They're upper end Case XX, Queen, Boker Tree Brand, and Shatt % Morgan, which is a Queen line. I have Stockman, Trapper, and Barlow patterns from each of these companies, except no Barlow from Queen. I also have a dozen or so Rough Rider pocketknives in the same patters, two Frost Cutlery in Trapper and Stockman, and a Sarge Barlow. None of the Rough Rider knives cost more than fifteen dollars and three or four cost twelve dollars. The Frost trapper cost about eighteen, and the Frost Stockman cost seventeen. Despite having a boatload of expensive knives that are in the same patterns, and have far better steel, I can't make myself stop using the Frost Cutlery stockman that cost seventeen dollars, or the Sarge Barlow that cost thirteen dollars. They just feel better in my hand, and give me so much control when doing detail carving work, that I keep going back to these two very cheap knives. Go figure. Person taste, personal feel, personal working methods. Anyway, sorry for rambling on and on.

Say Heah, I like getting use to my neck knives around my neck around the house, especially in the kitchen, Yeah, it's a good way for me to get use to a knife that I'll be using soon, only because I can change off knives. But for a Tank hard use my Rodent Solution is a tough one in cold weather where alot if wood needs to be processed, especially kindling, then one of my Fav's is my Rodent 3 It fit's great even though the handle look's small and I wear a large knife, But right now I'm carrying my Top's Mini Scandi Knife 2.5 and We're going out soon and I'm teaming it up with my Potbelly and also I'm bringing my new recently Santa gift that brought it in the Brown Truck it's a modified INFI RatManDu I had it thinned down with a sharp 90°, Take care, , ,

I had a Becker BK14, the 24 in 1095; it was the biggest disappointment I've had to date with a knife purchases. I don't know if it was a bad heat treat or what, but the steel was soft as shit. I had it for a little over two months and I've had to sharpen it so many times that I had to put the thumb latch back onto the sheath because it's so loose in it. I bought a MKM Makro 1 in M390 and called it a day with the Becker.

I carry a Buck Model 119 tucked into my waistline under my shirt. Carried it since I was 16, and it does everything I need it to. Also if you carry a knife for self defense, make sure it’s legal in your area. Knife carrying laws are much more murky than gun laws. In California where I grew up it was legal, but only when attached to belt in open carry. Now that I live in Pennsylvania, it’s legal to carry it any way I want. Also in case you want a Buck 119 but you don’t want the 420HC Steel, go to the official Buck creator page and you can choose to get your 119 in SV30.

Say Heah, Yeah, I'm really liking my Rodent 3 it's small all around, even though I wear a large glove it fit's my hand like a glove. and the SR101 is a awesome steel too, I just Piggybacked it with my Rodent 7 and I Baldric Carry it, I also made a makeshift Piggyback with my Benchmade Arvensis 119 and my Bokor Coye Ridgeback, It was hard to do because the holes are on the same side on the Sheath's and don't match, But I used a ID Chain and a couple of plastic ties, I horizontal carry the Arvensis and cocked upward the Ridgeback for easy excess. ,, . But I still luv my Mora 510 for a neck knife, I really like wearing it with single knife carries, Like my Modde Rodent 6 with my 510 as my neck knife. ,, .

@MarylandRefugee2014
@MarylandRefugee2014 8 жыл бұрын
For me, I'd get the ESEE 4 all day! The 3 is nice, but it's a lot slimmer thickness makes it have limited universal uses(in my opinion). The ESEE 4 it a great length, good thickness, made of 1095(great mid level steel), and is backed by the crazy sweet warrenty. Only thing I'd add is looking into the handle thickness. Both of those knives have very think handles and could be uncomfortable if your not used to it or have softer hands. :)

Say Heah Mary with the deep voice, heh heh heh, Yeah, I never got into neck knives per say, Although I do sometimes Cary a neck knife in the bush, But when and if I do, I like a full handle, So Yeah, I like carrying my Skookum Bush Tool, I also neck carry my Browning Independence Fix Blade, Oh, defenetly because it's lite, my Jeff White French Trade Knife, and sometimes I will carry my Blind Horse Bushcrafter which is a little heavy but very practical to carry it as a neck knife for what I do in the bush. Then I got (2) BK-14's I like the slabs it adds another demension to the knife, My true neck carry E D C is my Top's Mini Scandi Knife, But like you I don't like the 3 finger grip, But I love the knife and it carries well under a T-Shirt, Then my Rodent 3 and my Rodent Solution, The Rodent is prolly my Fav's because it's lite and very comfortable to carry, but I keep forgetting those to are small knives, Especially the full handle on my Solution, The handle on the Rodent 3 is smaller but even with the bump on the Lightning Bolt Handle it still fits my hand great, and I wear a large glove. But these two are work horse knives in the bush, especially my Rodent Solution, if I have to process alot of wood especially kindling, that Rodent Solution goes to work it's a LIL Tsnk, But the Rodent 3 is a pleasure to neck carry and it's very sharp so O love it in the bush, Actually I really love all of them or I wouldn't of got them right ?, anyhow, if you want a neck knife for the bush to do some real work, Try the Rodent 3, It's Simply TiT's, , , Oh Happy Thanksgiving, ,

Im looking for a neck knife with alot of weight. Lots of girth in the handle, blade length doesn't matter much, but i dont want to look like im carrying a bowie knife around. One last thing, is i don't want a hooked blade, and not fully serrated. Partial serrated is fine. Do you have any suggestions? Enjoyed your video
@MarylandRefugee2014

Honestly, it's sounds like you're looking for more of a fixed/edc blade than a neck knife. I really love the survive knives GSO 3.5, Gravelle HUK, ESEE 4 with knife connection handle scales, kabar BK16, spyderco street beat w/mic arts handle.Those are just a starting point for you to look into, but I edc all of those regularly and they fit your criteria.

The reason i want a neck knife is its ease of access, with all my winter clothes , mittens on. I have a small one already around my neck. 3 EDC in my pockets.I have many belt fixed blade hunting style knives. But at 20 below i don't want to have to take off anything to use my tools or knives. I really wish people would stop saying a knife is made from "440 steel". Twenty years ago, that had meaning. Today it doesn't. 440C is obviously a very, very good steel, assuming it's high grade, and not a Chinese imitation, but even regular 440A now comes in several varieties and grades. Some 440A is subpar, and some is the same 440A used in knives thirty years ago. But some 440A is now pretty good steel that holds an edge very well, that has high carbon content, and that has vanadium added to the mix. Good 440A now shouldn't be called 440A at all. Once you reach 7cr17MoV, you're getting steel that's more than good enough for the average user. When you hit 9Cr18MoV, you have an excellent steel that rivals several of the "super" steels for being a great blade steel. Many think the higher HRC a knife has, the better it is, and the higher abrasion resistance steel has, the more you should want it. This is complete nonsense. Both of these things comes with a price tag that's not in money, but in negative factors the blade will have. Once these things get too high, the knife becomes useless for anyone whop doesn't spend all his time cutting tape to open boxes from Amazon. 9Cr18MoV is the first steel I've found that makes a better stainless steel blade better than 440C on a working knife. I like it a lot more than s30v, and, in fact, more than any of the "super" steels I've tried. It holds an edge very well, and unlike the so-called "super" steels, it doesn't micro chip nearly as bad as it starts getting dull. Don't tell me knives made from one of the "super" steel never have to be sharpened. If you believe that, you don't use a knife much at all. Every steel gets dull, and when this happens, how it gets dull matters. The worst possible way is for it to chip at the micro level, which is what every "super" steel I've tried does. Anyway, find out exactly what kind of steel a knife has. Just because it's marked "440 steel" doesn't mean it's your dad's 440A. This is how China ha sto mark every knife made from any kind of 440 steel because American companies are completely dishonest about what goes into most made in China knives. They are slowly, very, very slowly, starting to mark knives with the proper designation, and if they keep at it, it will be a huge improvement for knife buyers.

Because 1095 steel is used so widely, many underestimate how good 1075 steel really is. 1075 is in the spring steel family, and is actually a much tougher steel than 1095, or even 01 tool steel. This is why it's the steel of choice in most countries where machete use is common, and where almost everyone owns a bigger than average knife. No, it doesn't hold an edge quite as long as 1095 or 01, but it still holds an edge a good while, and if you're honing your knife after each use as you should, you'll never even notice the small difference in edge retention. I love 1095 steel. It's proven itself over and over and over. But I love 1075, too, and it is not an inferior steel, it's just a different steel, and is better for some uses than any other steel out there. I own a fair number of 1095 knives, but my knife of choice for field work is made from 1075 steel.

I agree, for the most part. Edge retention vs easy of sharpening will always be a hot button topic for knives. As a whole, I love the "10" series of steel. I just think for overall use is got too much to offer and can never be overlooked. I have several in 1075, and they're some of the best knives for bushcraft, just boils down to small difference IMO between that and 1095.

+MarylandRefugee Have you done a review specifically on the Condor mini Bushlore? If you have, I've overlooked it. I have the full size Bushlore, and it seems the mini would be a good companion for it, but the only reviews I've found come from people who love everything. They never give anything a bad review.

Not for me. I tend to lean more to universal uses in my knives and a karambit is just a little one sided(defensive) for me.

blades of 3" are more than adequate to protect oneself in a self defense situation they will penentrate into most vital organs of the human body and deliver a devestating and deadly wound . there is a 20 ft rule [ 2 men 1 armed with a knife the other a firearm ] the man with the blade is equal to the man with a firearm because he can travel that distance and deliver a life threatening wound before the man with a firearm can get it out and aim properly also the man with the blade is up close and personal and can deliver devastating results very quickly.

Hi there! Great movies! So I got a question about two of your knives. What would you choose for an edc knife - Condor Bushlore Mini or BK14? I love the style of a bushlore but I don't know about the steel and heating. I need a city and outdoor edc so I would like to know your opinion.
@MarylandRefugee2014
@MarylandRefugee2014 9 жыл бұрын
SahibJura Because of the scandi grind on the bushlore, its more of an "outside" kinda knife almost exclusively. I love the bk14 and bk24, but they might be a little large for city carry(depends on your job and clothing). In that price range I'd look at an ESEE Izula or a Tops MSK.
@SahibJura
@SahibJura 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for answer! I will check this Tops, Izula is unfortunetly out of my reach (bk14 is a lot cheaper in my country). Once more - great vids!

I don't see how people can carry knives around their neck! I've tried it and I was just too uncomfortable! Anyways I got a new job and I've started to use my knives a lot more. I really don't want to tear up my folder because Ive bee doing some really ruff cutting at work so I'm looking a small like very small fixed blade I can throw on my belt that nobody would notice. Don't want to look intimidating at all because I live in a pretty good sized town and I'm out in the public a lot making part runs or even just on lunch break and I really don't want anyone to feel intimidated with it on my belt. Any suggestions? Not doing any kind of chopping by they way so I really don't need a big heavy knife.

Do you think that a Buck 141 Paklite Large Skinner would be too big for an EDC?
@MarylandRefugee2014
@MarylandRefugee2014 9 жыл бұрын
kmfrost no knife is "too big" for EDC, just gotta factor in certain things. Crocodile dundee EDC's a machete lol, but he has a daily use for it. You figure out how your gonna carry it(scout, inside the waist band, dangle carry) factor in if its legal to carry, and factor in if practical. You wouldn't need to carry a machete in an office job you work 60hrs a week in :). check out sheaths online and find one that works well in an EDC role for your knife and go from there.

It depends where you live like is it more rural than city like I live in Wisconsin it's like 90% woods and 10% cities I can carry a 12inch edc you need it but in a city like losangeles like I did it sucks for conceal carry and what can you carry and for all weapons you can only carry like at most like a 6-7 inch some cities if its bigger than 7 it's too much and your fucked.
