Wearing shorts can be very age appropriate for anyone when done with taste style fit and event. Not sure where you got your research on that tip.

Being in Phoenix, Arizona I'm going to disagree about the shorts rule. They are definitely a necessity here, but whether or not you SHOULD wear them is more about your physique than your age. If you are in good shape, just watch Ashley's previous videos about how shorts should fit, not baggy, not too long and no cargo shorts, and you'll be fine.

For those in the tropics, shorts is totally fine so don't throw your shorts out. No one will judge you wearing shorts in casual events whatever your age is.

What I find amusing is that you take for granted that everyone wants to look like he just graduated from high school. One of the advantages of getting older is that you care less and less about what other people think. Older people already have partners if they want them, and are not desperate to get laid. They are usually neither insecure nor immature, and they usually have lives that suit them just fine. So impressing other people is unimportant, and looking their age is not seen as a bad thing. They dress for comfort, not style. Wait a few decades and watch this video again, and you'll see what I mean (prepare to seriously cringe). In the meantime, thanks for the smile-it's like watching the grandchildren play.

The working out part is dangerous advice. The changes older people have made in the physique and health is incredible. It's happening everyday. Sure it gets harder as you age, but to make a blanket claim to just maintain what you have and not improve, is just ridiculous advice. Wow.

I agree with everything you said except the shorts. I live in California where it gets up to 110 degrees sometimes and pants are just uncomfortable in that heat. I mostly wear them around the house or to go to the store to make an errand.

I am growing old gracefully. I must admit laughing because I used the word "oh hair dye" and my wife gave me a harsh look saying "I am colouring my hair"! As you stated I took in gracefully acknowledged her correction but thinking colour or dye it's semantics lol Love the messages and chemistry you two have.

I had my left ear pierced when I was 19, about 20 years ago my wife bought me a diamond chip earring. I’ll be 59 next next month and I still wear it. My wife likes it and I like it. Plus I wear Ralph Lauren button front shirts with the polo pony, also I occasionally wear a skull ring, I guess I am a total geek, but I like it.

I agree with just about everything here (I'm 63), with one exception: Living in Florida (where it's disgustingly hot and humid for a big part of the year), shorts are the order of the day. Of course I mean AGE APPROPRIATE shorts. As far as fashion in general, I always go by the rule: If you're old enough to remember it the first time around, you're too old to wear it the second time around. Read it. Learn it. Live it.

lol the comments on shorts I still look young at 40 but I wouldn't be caught with shorts on in public. At the cottage, the beach, and on vacation? Sure. But not in the city, even on a hot day.

Great video and in general I agree with your recommendations. With shorts I think if you wear well fitted shorts, are groomed properly and are confident about yourself you can pull it off. Too many men have shorts hanging below the knees...not a good look. That said what do you think about wearing casual dress sneakers with shorts? with ankle type of socks?

Can you do a video on colors that work with brown skin. I’m Indian and always wore black or navy blues. But after losing 33lbs I’ve ventured out with more color choices like a maroon tshirt or lighter colors and people have complimented me. But never really understood colors that go well with different skin types. Thank you. Stay safe and see you guys on the other side back to normal.

I love these guys but I think some of the assumptions in here about what happens to you when you get to 40 are pretty harsh. I understand they are trying to help but for once this just doesn't hit the mark for me.

Slim cut long shorts still look stylish in Tropical climate but wear it in context specific situations ie while enjoying leisure time at public parks, beachfronts, BBQ gatherings or quick shopping at neighborhood grocery stores etc

Love the video, but disagree with you on shorts. If you are active, or just prefer it, then shorts are fine IF they fit right (no pleats) and are at the right length (right above the knee). What you wear with your shorts is essential as well - no long sleeve button downs, but yes to Polos and non graphic tees. This one you are 100% wrong - wearing the right pair of shorts is great.

As for dying hair...I've been using a gradual system... slowly darkens the hair over uses...I'm 41 an a VERY graying beard... been using the fading system and I can tell the difference...but looks extremely natural!!(but I've been bald for a few years now)

I picked up a £10 Philips eyebrow trimmer from Amazon. It takes care of eyebrows, ears and nose hairs, and it does the trick really well. I can't remember if it was recommended by you guys, but it's far preferable to plucking nose hairs with a tweezer.

I agree with you about short with certain exceptions. I live in Texas and on the golf course in the summer everyone is wearing shorts. Also I go scuba diving in Mexico and everyone is wearing shorts. In both of these situations not wearing shorts would be inappropriate.

I think you have to be careful because nowadays many people look more youthful longer and not everyone over 40 is ready to die. I wear shorts and will continue to as I live in SoCal and it’s hot. I don’t dress like I’m 12. Keep up the good work but be kind to “old people”, you’ll both be there soon enough.

I find myself wearing shorts less and less as I age; I am currently 55. Even when traveling to Florida and the Caribbean, I have a uniform approach to what I wear; very light chinos or linen pants, a high quality polo or tee from Sunspel or Orlebar Brown, and a pair of high quality white sneakers!

Thank you. I know I'm not subscribed to a more than half a dozen fashion channels but this is the first time I've heard someone finally say to take it easy on the cologne. Even during social distancing you can smell people from 10 feet away in the outdoors. It's repugnant. You are not a skunk. You don't need to leave a scent every where you go. When you wear that stuff you start to not notice it yourself, and it's even worse when you're a smoker. So they tend to spray more and more of it on themselves to get the 'effect'. I once had a girlfriend who used just a tiny bit of it and you could only smell it when you were intimate. That was great. But I shouldn't be able to smell a stranger from the other side of a starbucks.

Agree with you Dorian on the shorts. I'm 59 and stopped wearing shorts several years ago realizing I looked like a fool. Plus, now that I'm living in WI, I can wear pants year round. No piercings and only wear a rosary bracelet and my veterans ring. Not even a watch.

Unfortunately I live in a state that's very humid, and I sweat heavily so shorts are one of those essential things for me.

Here in NC, you won't find very many people not wearing shorts. I do agree that not all shorts are created equal, and flat shorts look much better. Having said that, it is very humid here. Very! There is a 100% difference in leg sweat with shorts vs. chinos or even linen. It's so humid here that you can walk outside on a summer morning and start to sweat before it's even hot out. A breathable outfit is a must unless you plan on being inside all day. Chinos and linen pants might be more breathable than jeans or dress pants, but we don't have that dry heat like the Midwest or even California.

I attended a function last year and my brother wore a baggy sports coat with khakis and he really looked BAD. I had a killer suit that was fitted well and received tons of compliments. I wanted enlighten my brother on the fit of his clothes, but I didn't want to hurt his feelings. Fit is so key...I will let his wife talk to him.k

My opinion on the shorts is that you can not wear shorts in any age if you have skinny, toothpicks calves. On the contrary if you have good muscles on your calves (and quads) you can wear them on very, very hot weather with the right complementary clothes and shoes of course.

The subtext of this video by Ashley and Dorian: if you're over 40, cover yourself up because you're gross and it's just getting worse.

I live in Atlanta. In the middle of summer, even light weight khakis can feel like heat traps. I would never wear shorts to work as I work in an office, but outside work I wear shorts all the time. Plus I have great legs. They are a little pale, though.

I agree with some of the comments below about shorts. I'm 60 and I'm in good shape with no weird imperfections on my legs so I pull off shorts well. Most of my friends in the 50-60 age range are also in good shape and also pull off shorts no problem. I think the key, which you all preach on your channel, is to make sure they fit really well, they are the right length and you pair them with the right shirt, shoes etc. I would NEVER wear long pants to an outside concert in 80 + degree weather or to go day drinking with my friends at a brewery in the summer. That would look weird and I would probably be the only one wearing long pants. Here's a great idea. Do a video about how to wear shorts appropriately over 40. Your over 40 audience will thank you!

Any older guy that's afraid to embrace the grey hair should look to Greg Berzinski from Beardbrand. He's fully embraced the grey and looks like Zeus. As for the cologne tip, though I'm in my late 20s and seldomly wear it, a tip I learned from my dad is to spray one or two sprays on a napkin or cloth and just dab it once on each side of your neck. That way the cloth keeps most of the smell and only someone right on top of you can smell it on you.

Cologne is an issue any time people are enjoying beer, wine, whisky and good food. As I get older and appreciate these things more. I notice that my Guinness tastes off because all I can smell is cologne (or perfume). Please choose when you wear any cologne wisely.

Good points, guys, except for the shorts. If you’re reasonably fit and don’t have spindly legs with spider veins, then well-fitted shorts (no jorts, cargo shorts, baggy shorts or those atrocious baggy shorts) above the knees (not below the knees) should be perfectly fine during those hot, humid, and muggy times.

Here's my thoughts on logo shirts. It depends what the logo is for. Example: Military Veterans who rock a shirt with the branch of the Military that they served in. That's awesome.

I am in my mid 50s and I wear khaki shorts with a light blue oxford shirt, dark brown boat shoes and a Panama hat-- especially during a hot Summer day. I don't think it looks bad at all.

Your points about 11 style mistakes are very much, forgive the pun, on point. I'm 61, retired and make an effort to look good but in a style befitting my age. I will wear shorts while attending my backyard barbecue but no place else and even then only if there are no guests. No one should be subjected to the old dude in such attire. I wear cologne but one short spray only. I don't walk through it but spray it on the front of my neck. That's it. It's often offensive to wear the five to seven sprays many YT scent channels tend to suggest. Maybe younger guys can get away with that but I doubt it. Smelling like a broken bottle of Axe does not make anyone a chick magnet. If you are beyond my personal space you shouldn't smell my eau de toilet. Not more than a hint at most. So again one short spray only. Let's not forget too there are many people with allergies and my scent could trigger a serious reaction. If you are older you will like visit doctor's offices and hospitals more frequently and most such places have enforced no scent rules. They need to be followed. Classic styles of clothing, footwear, and watches are fine for any man at any age but perhaps critical for the older guy. And yeah, I don't use hair or beard colour. I've never seen a dye job look good on a man. If you feel differently that's fine. What ever works for you. It doesn't work for me. I accept my age. Indeed, I embrace it. But I'm not 20 or even 50 any more. I've earned my place as elder statesman even if that designation is given only by my family. As with any personal decision it is the choice of the individual. For an older man who wishes to exhibit wisdom the choice should be a good one.

Retired, in my 50's & train in gym 4-5 days a week. My calves look like I'm smuggling cantaloupes. So yeah, if your arms are any indication of your gym commitment you should keep covered as much as possible.

4:46 I completely disagree on this point. I live in California where summers can get up to 115 degrees. I am a person who is also pre-disposed to sweating way more than most people. I am already sweating as soon as I walk outside most of the time, even in shorts. Hell, I’m usually already sweating in the air conditioned apartment. The difference between wearing shorts and pants is whether the swamp ass is contained in my boxers or whether my pants are soaking wet. I would argue that shorts look a hell of a lot better than visible swamp ass through pants. I will have to check out the linen pants though. Maybe they’re cool enough to wear in the springtime at least.
