You must have noticed the train whistles are not identical always. You will astonish to know that they are of 11 types. Do you know what they mean?
1. One small horn - The motorman is taking the train in the yard for washing and cleaning for the next journey.
2. Two small horns - It means the motorman is asking the guard to direct the railway signal to start the train.
3. Three smaller horns - It suggests that the motorman has lost control over the train. This also acts as a signal to pull the vacuum break immediately.
4. Four Smaller horns - The motorman finds a technical issue with the train and it also indicates the train wouldn’t go ahead.
5. Continuous horn - The train is passing through stations without any halts. This is to alert passengers.
6. One long horn and one shorter horn - It means the motorman is signaling the guard to set the break pipe system before they start the engine.
7. Two long and two short horns - The motorman is signaling the guard to take control of the engine.
8. Two horns with two pauses - It indicates that the train is passing through a railway crossing. And it is to alert the passersby.
9. Two long and short horns - the train is changing the tracks.
10.Two short and one long horn - That either a passenger has pulled a chain or the guard has pulled a vacuum break.
11.Six time short horns - The train is stuck in a dangerous situation.
