I do see some oversights in the video, as both a Windows and Mac user. Windows+printscreen saves to screenshots folder in pictures on windows, since windows 10 (maybe 8). Snipping tool just seems to be most popular. F2 renames files, enter opens them. Much more intuitive on windows imo. I agree most other things listed in this video. Airdrop, touch gestures, spotlight search, consistency. Like, who needs two web browsers, two settings apps, two text editors (+one of you install Word), I could go on. Not to mention, a search bar that is crap, and constant ads for their crappy Edge browser down your throat? Do better Microsoft! Edit: now I read through a lot of the comments and most of my gripes were pointed out lol, oops

I agree with most points. The mistakes like renaming were already pointed out. One thing that wasn't metioned is the first point - on Windows, you see a path to that file and if it ends with "*" it hasn't been saved. Some Windows apps like notepad in Win11 even have this dot basically. One thing I must point out on MacOS is the preview option. It's just so freaking convenient to use in a folder and it's so much faster than opening the full program needed to display the file on Windows. On the other hand, what I just can't understand is how Apple is able to come up with something like this and then completely skip 6 huge features Windows has built in and you have to install 6 different (mostly opensource apps) to get them on Mac. I use both OS daily and I pretty much came to the conclusion that there is NO PERFECT operating system. I know it sounds like that guy who just wants to stay out of a conflict but it is true. There are things I love and things are absolutely hate on both operating systems. It's the same with android and iOS. Peace.

well, about some features of windows: in order to go to the desktop press combination WIN + D in order to rename press F2 it is a lot intuitive to open file with "Enter", because it says to enter to the file screenshots, the most of the times, you dont want to save your screenshots on the desktop, it is a lot easies to press WN + SHIFT + S and paste wherever you want
@eatpotatoesdaily
@eatpotatoesdaily Жыл бұрын
1:52 Honestly I think using Windows’s F2 key to rename is still faster. You can reach it with your left hand (while still keeping your right hand on the mouse) instead of having to leave the mouse with your right hand or stretching all the way to the return/enter key on the right side of the keyboard with your left hand. Still very good video though I’m watching your channel grow ❤

Well, you're wrong about one thing. The snipping tool saves screenshots automatically in the Screenshots folder... and if you have OneDrive backup enabled it syncs to OneDrive. Other than that, I agree. I got my first ever Mac and though I'm having a hard time figuring out how to maximize a window or cut paste, for example your videos have been immensely helpful. All are short, precise and to the point. Kudos
@eclipticpath
@eclipticpath 11 ай бұрын
Mac doesn't let you cut files away. You either paste them, or optionally move them by also pressing option (⌥). You can always see what option the option button gives by pressing it in a context menu, and for example, see "open in new window" change to "open in new private window" To maximize a window to fit its content: Double Click the top bar To maximize it to whole screen: ⌥ + Double Click a corner (Or download a snapping app like Rectangle)

Actually you can have some sort of "hot-corner" on Windows. This option is called "Select the far corner corner of the taskbar to show the desktop". If you enable this, when you'll move your cursor to the bottom-left corner of the screen and you click there, the desktop will be shown, until you press again on it.

I got a MacBook Air 15. I've never seen a Mac laptop in real life. If only it's keyboard was as good as my Legion 5 Pro 16. The Mac's layout reminds me of ChromeOS, and the settings app on Ventura and Windows 11 are similar. I don't especially like any of these OS', but I liked Windows 10. From what I've read, there a lot of people who prefer the previous MacOS. To sum everything up, I think they'll continue to become more and more a like. I wouldn't be surprised if those three eventually become one OS, with Linux as the only alternative. Similar to the brutalism occurring today - less options, less color, more grey.

Just to let you know most of the time they ask you if you want to save your work on Windows And Windows has a lot of legacy software. You don't have to throw out your computer all the time when they stop supporting it like on a Mac And the animations give a delay in closing and opening apps so if you want a responsive computer. Since you're using a mouse, just right click on the object and rename on windows. The way that Windows uses your RAM, you may have some apps that are running in the background. In Windows all you need to do is close them in task manager To free up some RAM. And windows uses ram differently. Can you change the amount of ram in your system on a Mac after you bought it?

The best comparison I've heard is this: "Mac is like a Tesla, it's lean, it's fast, it's efficient, looks great but it has imperfections here and there that makes you want to pull your hair when it occurs. Windows is like the Hummer EV, does the same thing and more but less efficient and it still has the unnecessary bells and whistles found in the older Hummer that ultimately bogs it down. Powerful but wastes a ton of energy doing the same thing." I own a G14 with i9 and RTX 3070 alongside a 16" MBP M3 Pro... ...there's something about the Mac that just gets the basics so right so I reach for it 85% of the time. Display, speakers, battery life/efficiency, webcam... The G14, I only use it for gaming, I appreciate Windows. I love my G14 no doubt but I just cannot bring myself to "love" Windows fully beyond its gaming prowess.

As a windows PC user for Gaming and Mac user for Productivity I can totally agree with you. Windows Legacy UI is the barrier for Windows 11. I use both the OS and WSL as well. Most of the times Windows 11 sucks also if your using multi monitor "separte virtual desktop for individual monitors" is not present in Windows 11, it was present in Windows 10 which brutally sucks. as a windows user - dot in the X is good - preview is good - animations suck in windows, true - backward compatibility messes with UI uniformity, true - right click in windows (11, not 10) is an abomination, true - to get to your desktop, click Win+D, or there's a a small seek button at bottom right corner, hover to view, click to jump to desktop, click again to come back to active windows, or swipe with 3 or 4 fingers down and up to go to desktop and come back respectively - to screenshot, press Win+print screen button, this will save in Screenshots folder (can be set to some custom location i guess, dunno) - there's F2 for rename, but yes, enter key to rename makes sense - file path teleportation is awesome, nearest feature we have is pasting/modifying the file path on windows explorer path bar - the mac os help menu is a dream come true - nearby share in windows (by google) levels the playing field - wake up time of evo laptops is less than one second, but yes, mac os does it better

one thing i think windows could also do better, in spaces/mission control you have multiple desktops. On windows you can also make multiple desktops. But the behevior on windows and mac is different when recording (in full screen). on mac, it records the whole om them if you switch. On windows it still records desktop 1 even if you switch to desktop 2. Well technically both could do better if this was just a toggle in the settings.

you see mac is used mostly for editing/rendering videos and online meeting, nothing more. in the other hand, windows is used by many people that needs a powerful and reliable system. my brother is an architect, he needs CAD and Geo Gis system architecture, and its just full of Calculation, i have no idea what is what, with a drawing books filled with all his design, guess what, he use Windows Laptop with 4 TB SSD filled with CAD file and data analysis. sadly in mac, they dont have it. my father is Army vet and now he work in an office that uses hundreds of windows PC to publish books (mostly manuals) for a company. my uncle runs a car repair shop, and he use windows to setup the ECU and alot of things like installing android touchscreen dashboard into an old car from 2016 and older car. what about mac? i found out my sister use m1 macbook for her study in the college, and what is she doing? drawing, and video editing because she choose arts. me? i studied Computer Technology because of my dad, he don't want me to be a mechanic, and it turns me to a fkn geeks, but it makes me understand why 78% of the population use Windows.

I mostly agree with points covered in this video, but there is one thing Mac handles infinitely worse than Windows -- that's external monitor support (I have a 34" 1440p ultra-wide monitor). 1. Default scaling is super minuscule, I had to crank up different system settings to make it bearably acceptable. Alternatively you can chose 720 HDPI setting and everything becomes so huge that external monitor setup looses its worth. On windows side of things you can set any % of scaling without any hustle and everything works like a dream. 2. There is no ext monitor control out of the box. You can't change volume (if there are speakers hooked up through it) or brightness. 3. There is no easy way to transfer apps between screens. You can setup specific short-keys, but it is not as effortless as on Win side.

Lol, Full screen on MacOS is so annoying. For a GUI heavy interface, the Menu systems on mac os is horrible. Also I am selling my Macbook Pro M1. Windows multi tasking IMO is better, split screen, multi tasks etc.

As Linux users, here's the explanations of the feature comparing with Linux and GNOME or KDE (few): 0:12 - Depends on the app (like Text Editor shows the dot on the titlebar). 0:21 - GNOME Files can do that by installing gnome-sushi. For KDE use tooltips for larger image preview. 0:28 - Animation on GNOME Desktop is pretty smoother although some animations like opening app on GNOME steals the macOS ones. Even it can customize through extensions. KDE is smoother too. 0:47 - Thanks to libadwaita and GTK CSS Theming, the most GNOME Apps have consistent UI elements. Although some older apps still using the older theme, but you can install adw-gtk3 to get libadwaita look for GTK apps for more consistency. KDE seems more consistent with titlebars, and it doesn't have custom headerbars like the GNOME ones. 0:56 - GNOME Files only: You can add more actions on the files context menu by installing some GNOME Files Extensions or creating a nautilus scripts on ~/.local/share/nautilus/scripts 1:09 - KDE does that, but on older GNOME by installing the Show Desktop Button Extension or you can create one if you're a developer. 1:26 - on GNOME, it automatically saved to the user Pictures folder. 1:33 - Use F2 key 😎. 1:55 - GTK can do that 2:02 - Size cursor can be changed through the Settings > Accessibility > Seeing > Cursor Size (GNOME 42/43+ only) and even applied to all cursor themes 2:33 - I think that's the floating search. on GNOME by installing an extension called Search Light. ...Don't forget about PowerToys search bar. 2:38 - It's so harder than GNOME Builder quick actions (maybe). 2:53 - Use minimal GNOME Desktop or KDE Plasma Desktop to get smaller memory usage and it depends on the Linux Distros. 3:00 - Use Gesture Improvements extension for GNOME. 3:11 - GNOME Desktop has preinstalled GNOME Core Apps. Again, use minimal GNOME desktop for minimal stuff. 3:24 - Use KDE Connect (for KDE) or GSConnect (for GNOME) for sharing files 3:29, 3:34, 3:40, 3:43 - depends on the hardware Tell me if some explanations are wrong or inaccurate.

The claim is that trackpad gestures are BETTER on macOS. In my arrogant opinion, this is true and the difference has more to do with hardware than software. [My daily driver is an (Intel) MacBook Pro, in part because my workflow is trackpad-centric.]

Mac has a notch, something that's not very ok for me, it wastes a lot of information space on the bar, so I prefer the 16-inch 2019 mac.
@satysin630

But the 16-inch 2019 MacBook Pro has a much bigger notch that extends the full width of the screen wasting even more space. Otherwise known as a bezel. While the notch is a bit weird to look at I am very happy with less wasted screen estate on my 2023 MBP vs my old one.
@dvg9904

the notch actually doesn't stick out of the bezel, instead the bezel around the notch was cut out, and when using apps in fullscreen the notch completely dissappears

@@dvg9904 I want to use the information on the bar bar. I don't like the notch of this model even if it disappears when used in full screen. Because the program I use wants to show the information on the bar above bar. I have a 16-inch 2019 MacBook. It can display information well and enough.

You can shake a window and get all other windows to minimise. That needs to be copied
@mohamadhomsi6453

To be honest, I think you should try using Windows more. For example, when you mentioned going to the desktop with a hotkey on Windows, you can simply click the bottom right corner of the screen, and it takes you to the desktop. Additionally, while it's true that not many people would change their mouse color, it's still nice to know that you have the option to do so if you want. As for the search bar, I suggest trying the dev channel builds as they keep updating it and adding new features. Furthermore, it only takes about 20 minutes to clean Windows from all the pre-installed bloatware, so I don't think that point is valid. When it comes to comparing speakers, it's not really a Windows-specific feature as it depends on the manufacturer. I highly recommend exploring Windows more deeply and trying the dev or canary channel builds, as they have many cool features.

The thing that I prefer the most about MacOS is the Stability and predictability : no more blue screens, no more missing DLL, no more driver issues, no more random reboots, no more software crash, no more windows updates, no more random rebooting, no more change to my settings, no more ads in my menu on a paid software, no more crappy UI, no more slow software.
