I was fortunate to watch this show live. It took place near Khanna in Kolkata, perhaps in 2008. I hardly knew then that this girl would reach such heights, but I could make out that she is not just another ordinary kid. She did a massive performance that day. And of course nothing much to say about her super talented dad. Kudos to you Mohini !

The person inducting, I knew him as Shantanu Sir. He used to teach my friend. We would hop in, and he never did mind. A jolly good fellow with supreme singing prowess. He departed a couple of years back. this is in remembrance of him.

I recently met a bassist who says he can play everything Victor Wooten does. Well...he would shit himself seeing Mohini and her dad. I accidentally found Mohini the other day while surfing KZfaq. WOW! What a beautiful and amazingly talent young woman. She exhibited all of the talents a modern bass player should have plus a style and name that is memorable. Playing in a video with Guthrie Govan, Mohini received a huge applause when she took off on some Funk Bass Lines proving she is ready to emerge not only as a musician but as a Star Musician. One that is noted for playing with all of the most popular singers and bands. I wish Mohini good luck, your on your way. And thank you to her Father for giving his Little Girl the gift of music.

Onestly the Mohini playing is something celestial and divine. She is a poet. I'm just curious; how did the American Funk of the seventies, find it's way into the hearts of todays' players from India? And I never knew Mohini Dey had a father who apparently is also, a learned and studied bass player(who apparently taught his daughter, all-or most-of what she knows)). I speak as an African-American bass player, who has seen the 'times' change; I never made it, the way some people have in this world-but I(and so many others from the Black community)had something to say on the bass guitar also-when it was all about the Funk. I'm in my 60s now, and for me, a lot of what used to inspire me is now just "old news", as far as bass playing goes; I believe all such is attributable to the fact that as you get older, you OUTGROW certain things-and-having experienced that which has already been(the funk and progressive R&B movements/music of the late 1960s to the mid 1980s), you look for something else to continually stimulate you to remain a musician. For me, that next level of stimulation came from jazz(which I began to play in the late 90s, after being with "the funk" for over twenty years). I also, never abandoned "the funk", but the physical demands of learning and playing jazz(through learning to play the upright bass), demanded and took more physical effort to learn-compared to being self-taught on the bass guitar(which I was)-coupled with the continual adversity I experienced from Satan and his emmisaries, who RULE THIS WORLD IN DARKNESS-well, it forced me to give a priority to the one(jazz)and relegate less time to the other(Funk and R&B); understand; I realize this may not be the case for everyone who decides to balance both worlds(straight-ahead Jazz and Funk)-but it was the case for me. And I still play jazz-but there is a "seal" around me(or is it within me?)to where I am no longer able to play the bass guitar(the funk)with the ease and level of facility that I once used to(which is another story in itself)-I also stopped playing music for about seven years(which, again, is also, another story, which I will not spend time here, talking about), having recently returned to the life of being a musician, some months ago. Why did I return to playing music(guess what?-another story which I won't go into at this time). With that-I hope someone/anyone who sees this will gain some type of insight from all of what I had to say, yes? And I know Satan's people are monitoring this-(in fact, they are now trying to PREVENT me from posting this)-but I don't care-I think all of what I had to say, falls under the aegis of being "confessional", where you just don't give a "fuck" anymore-and hope that someone will learn and be inspired from what someone my age(and with my experience)had to say, about all of what they have been through, in this life. And yes, I could write a book about so much of what I've seen and heard-and witnessed-but that's another matter, of which time will reveal, whether I should or should not write such a book. Hopefully someone has been enlightened therefore, by all of what I had to say, this day. P.S.: I also encounter adversity(from Satan and his invisible kingdom of demons)when playing the upright bass, and greatly so at that, but the adversity is greater, when I try to play the bass guitar; just thought someone would like to know this also...
