GMs win 50% of GM v GM games that dont end in a draw, but none GMs probably win 99% of the games they play non GMs

I'm not a poor sport but I do hate to lose on boardgames and card games. Only just learned chess a few weeks ago and have only won 2x even though I play every night with my son and husband. It's very humbling to lose night after night! But it's helping me learn too 😁

If you don't care about losing games, you'll never get good. Plenty of great players were sore losers (Fischer, Kasparov, Carlsen, to name a few).

The kid is already a FIDE Master rated around 2200. When the rating gap is 300-400 points, the weaker player is statistically expected to win roughly once per 6-10 games. Meaning he was obviously an underdog, but given his (very impressive) rating he has had a slim, but tangible chance to beat the GM. It's not some random kid : )
