Today I am bringing to you my personal 11 year long history of garden railroading. Of course I was not able to cover all of what I was doing but this video shows the biggest steps of it...

Congratulations on 11 years of garden railroading! 🚂🌿 Your journey in this hobby is truly inspiring. It's amazing to see how dedication, creativity, and a love for trains can transform a backyard into a miniature wonderland. Your attention to detail and the way you've incorporated natural elements into your layout is simply stunning. We wish you many more years of joy, exploration, and sharing the magic of garden railroading with the world. Your story is a testament to the enduring appeal of trains and the beauty of nature. Keep those trains rolling and those tracks winding! 🌟🌼🚆

Thank you very much! My journey still continues and I am enjoying every bit of it! I try to build like the real railway, incorporating the natural elements insted of rebuilding the whole garden to accommodate the railway.

WOW! Great vision, hard work and tenacity... You don't have to be a 'railroader' to realise the enormous amount of imagination and engineering skill that went along with that to create something magnificent. Well done indeed...

Gras leaves, no problem. Build train, you will need to test the different order of processes (order of trail cars). You will need to have cars with miniweedeaters, on one or both sides (small drone motors should work, the train speed might need to be adjusted). The difference between one side and both sides will depend upon how you design. If the motor is in the car, and the head/s, are belt, or shaft driven, where is the power supplied/stored, etc. one side with the motor in car, and a battery in car might be one sided. Also, look at the balance of the cars. Leaves, a compressor, with ducts directing the exhaust, should blow the leaves out of the way, along with the grass cuttings from maintenance of the main yard. If you design a cutting car with a 180 degree cutting angle. I don’t know what degree of cutting to describe, but 180 degrees side to side, with 90 degrees of cutting front to top. On the leading car, would ensure that any plants would not droop into the path of any train on the tracks. Sorry for the length, hope this helps.

Love the video and story behind it. I also had a backyard layout, but found that it was too much maintenance, I would keep it looking nice, but ran my trains once or twice a year. I finally decided to trade it for repairs on my home. It was an experience I will never forget.

Hi Richard, nice to hear form you! You´re right, maintenance is the biggest issue of a garden railroad. You have to stay on top of the game all the time. Over the years I have learned some tricks to build the railway in a certain way so that it is easily maintainable but it is still a lot of work. This only pays off when you run your tains regulary!

Be interesting to see a video of how you operate your line, I noted a book in your signal area so I imagine some sort of Schedule for trains but what about wagons? Do you use wagon cards with waybills much like I do?
@summitrailway
@summitrailway Жыл бұрын
Hi! We operate the line according to the ruels and regulations of the german railroad (Deutsche Bahn). The line is equipped with all the signals, signs and track contacts to operate accordingly. We do have two signal boxes, each operated by a dispatcher. There are time tables in place which coordinate most of the trains, however it is possible to run extra trains in between. There are no wagon cards since we use standard railcars manufactured by piko and LGB thus they have often times identical rail car identification numbers. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!

I really like your work. I was just wondering is your build waterproof? And if yes how did you manage to achieve that with all the electric parts and models. Sorry if the question seems dumb, I'm thinking of starting this hobby and I'm still new to all this. Danke!
@summitrailway
@summitrailway 9 ай бұрын
Do you mean the whole layout by "your build"? If so then most of the stuff is water and weather proof. The rolling stock is only outside during the operation of the layout. Most of the locos are rain resistent however there are some exeptions because of modifications. Tracks, signals, lanterns, buildings and so on are weather proof as well and stay outside all the time. Of course there is some weathering over the time but that makes the layout more authentic anyways. I hope this answers your question!

Beautiful Any secrets to keeping ballast level I use chicken grit on mine
@summitrailway
@summitrailway Жыл бұрын
Hi, I don´t use any additional materials, just the track ballast. The key is to avoid high embankments if possible. It is also important to leave the ballast alone so it can settle and stabilize itself. A few times a year I have to re adjust some spots and put some more ballast down but for me thats easy and enjoyable work.
