My review of the Scag 30 inch mower after using it for 110 hours. This is not a sponsored video, just going over the machine after using it for a few hours. The engine has always had some trouble starting since purchased. Easy panels to remove to work on parts of the machine. The way the bag hooks on could have been designed better, along with the mulch plug that isn't easy to insert or remove. The quality of the cut is great compared to other machines of this size and configuration.
Able to tech is the bigger bagger I mentioned in the video, in case you are looking for a bigger bagger for your rear bagging push mower. Again Non-sponsor. #dirtandstonelandscaping #lawn #lawncare #scag #scag30inchmower #landscapeequipment #equipment #lawnequipment #lawnmower

Great review! I'm plan on picking one up with the casters for work. FYI- They have pins on the casters that can switch positions from swivel to lock, so you can mow slopes. We have some slopes, so that will come in handy for us. For your starting issue, I think it may be carburetor related. If it's been that way from the beginning, I think it could be the float is out of adjustment from the factory. This one also doesn't have a fuel filter, so debris could be collecting in the fuel bowl (I've dealt with that issue on another mower). Thanks again for the review!

@@christopherthompson3313 Since I filmed this I used VP racing fuel's Fix-it fuel, some gray smoke at first and it has been starting fine. The first run of new models are always rough with problems. But for anyone looking at buying a used mower of the same year as a reference, plus a comparison to newer models for making smart decisions.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Able to Tech bag. Overall a good review. I will say that they fixed a lot of the issues that people have with the SCAG SFC30.

Sounds like it's vapor locking. I have never experienced the cutting issue with my Timemaster 30. Toro introduced a foam filter inside the gas tank in order to stop vapor locking in previous models. I currently have the 21199 HD model and have been using it for 3 yrs no issues. Last month my blade engagment cable broke and while I was replacing it I noticed the main belt cracking and replaced that. When I did put the new belt on it gained more power to the blades but I should have replaced the pulleys because 2 days later one of the pulleys broke off. Ordered replacements and new timing belt because over time these belts stretch. I am glad someone can afford to buy a $3000.00 walk behind but I had to settle with what was in my budget. Got my timing belt in todays so tomorrow I will put everything together. Shapening the blades will give you a good cut, also if you are trying to bag with mulching blades then yeah you will leave stragglers. There are aftermarket blades for the Toro 30 inch that are hi lift. I agree the Ferris FW15 has a bizzare bagging system but honestly I don't think they were going for that but more discharge and mulching. I stopped mulching a few yrs back because it's more work thatching and I find bagging helps eliminate weeds especially if you don't use weed killers.

@@mrgreen2769 The 30" time master I had came with the updated 10hp engine which had the foam fuel filter insert. I had used the mulch/bag/discharge blades since customers wanted either to mulch or bag (customers choice) blades with regular sharpening lasted one season in my area. With the rear wheel housing and transmission needing replacement, because of the bigger bag we used led us to go with a machine that has a frame to handle a bigger bagger. The video wasn't to put down a model or brand, plus as stated it was what I experienced where and what I was mowing. Where and what you mow are never exactly the same, this video is for anyone buying a used machine from the same year or a reference to see changes to newer model years.

@@dirtandstonelandscaping8801 the 21199 HD comes with the Heavy Duty transmission. The previous models with the bigger engine did not have the HD transmission and has been problematic for some. I have over 2300 hours on my 21199 with no issues bagging sopping wet grass especially going on inclines. Don't get me wrong, if I had the money I would definately try the Skagg 30 inch but from what I am hearing is the Kohler engines are having issues especially on the Toro Turfmaster out in the heat. Both Skagg and Timemaster have close to the same bag size. After a time on the Toros Timemaster the belts stretch which caused the blades to not get full power. I just replaced my timing belt today and holding the old belt up to the new you can see the difference. In performance the blades retained their high rmp and allowed for full torque. If your Timemaster seems to drag when engaging the blades or does it mowing it is likely the blade engagement cable tension needs adjusted or the belts are wearing. I get major compliments on my Toros cut vrs those expensive crews using expensive zero turns. The heavy duty transmission has incredible power I just love it.

@@mrgreen2769 At the time and model of my timemaster from New and in reviews at the time missing blades of grass was a common review point which I saw even when new and reported from commercial 30 inch mowers from exmark and Toro at the time. When it came time for me to rebuild or replace, because of the lack of parts available and the fact that I was using a larger than stock bagging system. The transmission and housing would wear out again and I couldn't wait weeks for parts during the spring growing rush. I'm glad they continue to improve the model it's a great machine and that you compete on quality. If I didn't choose to use a bigger bag on the timemaster I probably would have gotten more years out of it, but in my situation I had to choose. I'm not putting the timemaster down. I'm just explaining what led me to buying the scag 30 and reviewing what I experienced with it, for others to look out for when making a purchase for this model year and compare it to newer models. Yes, parts wearing out due make machines run bad, but you are running a newer model timemaster then what I had and they have improved it since the one I was running.

Since I filmed this, I poured 1/4 of a bottle of VP racing fuel's Fix-it fuel in the gas tank and so far, (knock on wood) one pull to start.

you're probably losing prime. I'd try not to let it run out. If you shut the engine as soon as you feel it is getting low or running out of gas, that should help.
