What about any other object that touches? If it comes off on his hands then it would come off on other things as well. Check your extreme sensitivity at the door of KZfaq... it will not serve you well here. And rubber gloves? Seriously? To open a package? Your commentary only makes sense in a world ravaged by a pandemic, not in any normal world where people formed their habits (like opening packages with your bare hands). If that's an acceptable form of packaging marking to you I feel great pity for anyone you mail things to.
@CFox.7

@@TheActionBastard comments getting deleted I see. Its pretty obvious the marker was permanent as any other would have smudged in the previous handling and would negate the function as security scribble. The intelligent thing to do is NOT make assumptions as to the quality of the ink and to allow for the fact skin oils will make any type of marker bleed to some degree.

If it takes just 30 seconds it might also even be perceived as someone who is meant to be there fumbling with their keys.

@tsnap4
@tsnap4 2 жыл бұрын
I mean, your right. Any lock exists as a deterrent, and there are far more secure ways to ensure something never opens again, if that's what you want. A lock tells any would-be thief: "Hey, this isn't worth it if you don't have the key." Considering most thieves want to get something quickly and quietly (some important exceptions apply), you can simply add enough time sinks to prevent most theft. Mummifying something in packaging means you (the owner) don't have an easy bypass, but you also know everyone will have to spend the time to cut through your valuable's deterrent. It becomes a question of how valuable is the item or location versus how much time and resources are you willing to spend on making sure others can't get it?

Once again, the most challenging part of picking the lock is getting the lock out of it's packaging 🤣 Interesting lock none the less. Definitely 1 of the better ones I've seen on his channel so far.

@@rioghander2te you could make security duct tape by making a two layer tape, with VERY non-permanent and VERY copious quantities of scribbling in between the layers... ...if one of 3M's failures was a fastening compound too weak to permanently secure paper to other material (winding up as the secret of Post-It Notes ®), a bleeding Scotch ® duct tape failure otherwise would be a huge security success here.

That's not fair to this lock. Picking the pins presents enough of a challenge; a lock like this isn't gonna go cheap on the pins. And then there is the magnet pin, PLUS he had to pick out of a false set. This is a hell of a lock and I wish I could find a way to buy one in the US

That's the real takeaway to be honest, I mean sure some average lockpickers might have some of the tools on them, who's gonna show up to a door or gate or whatever, and bust out their tiny magnet and finagle it in there while making sure nobody is looking, etc. As someone who knows nothing about locks, that alone seems like it would make this kind of lock much safer.
