Poor fellow, obstructed breathing & altered consciousness are always sad and frightening to see in any animal 🥺 Hate to think of the suffering and confusion he's been experiencing. That said, you are all heroes in my book--and if anyone can give him a chance to recover, it's you and Gabby. Florida is blessed to have all of you working together and setting this example. And we your viewers are so blessed that you give us a window into all of these rescues! It's almost midnight here in South Africa. I was waiting up to see this. Shame. Full blown infection in his leg with a lot of swelling. I'm glad that some of the muck and pus has begun draining from the wound. Should give the big guy a little relief. Super glad you were able to begin medication pouring directly onto the damaged leg. Kudos to everyone involved with this rescue. I'm so glad you're in a position to take him into your sanctuary. Well spotted on his breathing problem Chris. Obviously that is the more serious problem that's of most concern. I hope that in the morning you'll be able to come up with a workable plan to get antibiotics flooded into his system, to begin attacking the infection in his leg and respiratory system. He's obviously seriously in need of assistance to beat whatever lies at the root of his illness. God grant you and Gabby the wisdom in dealing with him, BigMac and all your future special needs crocodilians. Always difficult when they're so big and powerful, so be extra careful please

It be cool if you could get welder to build you a wagon that you could pull, that’s large enough to carry an 11ft gator, (because that’s a normal problem to have)😂. It definitely help get you back in those narrow areas, on your property. I know you guys are just getting everything established, so it takes time to get stuff like that. I’m just throwing out an idea out there’s, you’ve been doing this for decades, and your pros, so I’m sure you know what you need to make life easier. There was a huge gator at Gatorland called “Blackwater,” and he got into a fight with another bull gator, got injured, and because of his age his immune system took a hit. The natural pneumonia bacteria that lives in every creature’s lungs overgrew, and he died of pneumonia after a long battle. Same thing happened to a guy in an airplane crash in the African bush. He was mangled from the crash, and within 4 days, he’d gotten pneumonia due to the body being overwhelmed with injury. So that might be what’s going on here.

Thanks alot Ron, Gabby and Chris! Fascinating to see what type of respitory disease he has or atleast see how he will survive it. Usually in snakes it's very dangerous for them but for the gators? Will also be interesting to see what happens if amputation is needed or just letting the leg heal on it's own.

Goodonya people! That's one lucky alligator. My jaw dropped when you were estimating his' or her's age. The things he/she must have seen. Though from his/her point of view: I've finally been abducted by aliens, my leg's dodgy, my nose is almost gunky blocked, I'm tired and sick and hungry, but at least they didn't put a finger up my woohoo!!!

Gabby is a real life Wonder Woman. Not even a huge ass alligator holds her back.

Poor fellow. For any wild animal, especially a predator, to just lay there isn’t a good sign. Hoping the respiratory infection, which sounds quite bad, can be successfully treated. The leg looks infected too. Yikes, how to give a gator an oral antibiotic…and I thought giving my elderly dog his inflammation meds was hard! Even if he acclimates quickly, he may so sick he may not even want to eat. It was good to see him show some fight. A heavy duty canvas tarp might be good to have around. I’d be happy to get you one if let me know the size and thickness. Thank you guys for taking him in and thank you Ron.

I remember a doctor who had a diluted H2O2 nebulized correction for kovid. No antibiotics were necessary in his experience. This is a gator and not a person, but the principal might apply.

Wow a truly great rescue. This is gator is in trouble. Maybe with some enrofloxacin or ceftazidime you can get a hold of that possible respiratory infection and leg infection. His leg has granulation going on it could heal and no amputation is necessary. Good job everyone. I wonder how old he is and why his gator immune system couldn’t handle the leg infection?? Unless the respiratory infection is unrelated to his leg infection…the lower lung infection is systemic and crashed his immune system ..? Then he acquired the leg injury after? Maybe?

How do you feel about Forever Chemicals in the water effecting Alligators and giving them infections and causing health problems? Another awesome rescue guys 👏🥰🧡

Awesome to see your rescue efforts! I have virtually no experience with alligators, except, well virtually (aka via youtube.) Whether or not the respiratory issue and the leg infection are connected, all I would guess is that fighting both things at once would probably be a lot for the body. That being said, alligators seem very resilient, so hopefully things work out well!
