Bonfires around Northern Ireland On the 11th of July Night...

The bonfires are a celebration of the bonfires that were lit to show the williamite forces the way down Belfast lough to land at carrickfergus where they disembarked for the boyne. So it is historical. And the reason cathlicks don't commemorate king James is because he completely deserted his forces after the boyne to the point that he earned the famous nickname ( from his own men) James the turd. And that don't look too good on flegs and banners.

I'm an Irish nationalist and I say keep the bonfires. They are cultural. What isn't acceptable is burning our flag and that's putting it mildly. And the comeback of the Jack being burned isnt valid because it doesnt happen on any kind of scale when compared to the 11th. You dont see bonfires in the Republic burning British or norn iron flags. There would be outrage. If anything you see the opposite. I visited Galway in 2019, during a summer festival there was bunting all over the city...bunting with flags, which included Northern Ireland. So your flag was fluttering all over the place. Could you imagine bunting in Portadown, Markethill or Larne, as examples, with the Irish tricolour. No chance!!! I also think parades and marches, same thing, should be continued and in a future 'agreed Ireland' if it ever comes about in some shape or form, these traditions should be absolutely continued and supported and I know the vast majority of people in the Republic would agree on that. People in the 26 counties couldn't care less what religion anyone is. The irony of the Battle of the Boyne is that king William's elite cavalry, the Dutch Blue Guard were a Catholic and his troops had the Papal banner. So shouting 'Fuck the Pope' is a little strange when the Pope wanted William to defeat James. Why? Because James and France werd allies and the Vatican and France were at odds. With parades and bonefires both have to go ahead in locations that are agreed upon. A problem though with the orange order is that its very nature supports sectarianism, ie: you have to be Protestant to join..and sectarianism in the North is the core of the problem. Cant understand why more primary level schools havnt become mixed. If you divide kids, then it's very difficult to bring them together as young adults.

+Thepr0df4ther Only if you come from Britain. If you're from the island of Ireland, you're Irish. You should try getting a small bit of education. Sure you might even get a job. Then you wouldn't have to fill your days with building these rancid bonfires.
@Marc-kr8pc8 жыл бұрын
mayway Looks like you need to be the one that needs to get an education as you are quite mistaken. If someone is from any part of the UK you are classed as British not necessarily just mainland Britain. It is just like anyone from any UK territory e.g Gibraltar or the Falklands they can still be classed as British. Besides these bonfires are tradition yous republicans should really try to get a culture sometime.
@jackwalls13908 жыл бұрын
+Thepr0df4ther the bonfires are a sham they mean nothing , the twelth is nothing but a day they think they can run the place and do what they want
