In this video professional photographers Pye Jirsa, Lee Morris, and Mike Kelley battle head to head to see who can take the best photograph in the studio. The challenge? One model, three different wardrobes, and 3 different lighting conditions. Oh, and throughout this photo challenge, they use multiple cameras including the iPhone 13 Pro, FujiFilm GFX100, and Sony A7RIII! Which photographer will take the best photo while the other two heckle and distract them? Find out at the end!

Pye's iPhone shot is the best photo of all. And, I'll vote #2 among all 3 photos. Also, I appreciate the many belly laughs I got out of this video. Out of all the s*&t going on in the world, this was needed.

The Iphone shot, the yellow tone of the lamp and darkness helped draw the viewer into the model making her stand out more in the shot. And Pyes reflection shot for thje win, the black and white looked better.

What I would personally like to see with these types of things are more context for the brief. Mike touched on it when talking about Pye's shot. In a real life situation, a client gives you a brief, there's context to what / why you are shooting. The best photos are ones are that are taken to tell a story, not just 'which looks cooler'. It is so frequent after a job, that a client will choose photos that you think are the individually weaker images, however to them the images best achieve the brief and show the things they wanted to show. Adding some brief to the shoot, gives a scale to judge the final images against, 'does it achieve the brief' or 'which one tells the story the best'. Even if the brief isn't given, there should be some self derived context, the photographer should have to explain what it is they are trying to achieve for what purpose, as we would do in university. The initial parameters are loose, but then you tell your story and explain what you are trying to tell so that others can judge and tell you if you did or did not achieve that in their eyes. This is how people get better at taking photos professional, learning how to interpret the requirements and best show them.

Have to ask a personal question to you guys. Regarding the studio space there, are you going to be renting it out to other photographers in the area or will it be exclusively for FStoppers?

Prob exclusively to Fstoppers because we’ve built many sets that others prob wouldn’t have as much use for. Also don’t want a hire a full time studio manager to manage rentals and keep the place in order. -P

Not easy to choose between Pye's picture and Mike's picture. Maybe Mike's picture is the best. Then Pye, and last Lee's one. The composition is better with the iPhone, but the yellow light is too strong imho. So I would stay on Mike's picture also. But anyway, nice job you three ! And it's really a pleasure to see you like that ! A lot's of fun guys !

#3 Pyes shot is in the same spot also nice, Mike's composition was just the most interesting for me, the only thing that bothered me is her right foot being lost out of shot. Still my favourite shot though.

Love these videos. Hands down most fun thing of the channel. And i liked lee's one with the flat paper, with the wardrobe i agree with the models opinion, Iiiittss fine 😅. Like Mikes one as well but found the cabinet on the left kinda distracting. So all said i like Lee's picture he didnt choose the best.

For me nr 2. I have a thing against cutting of feet. Both nr 1 and 3 have that. (The seamless shot has a straight line coming out of her head.) I do like the concept of nr1 the most. The iphone shot does not have the cut of foot, but lighting is weird (lamp color).

I have to go with #3, Mike's shot. I like the reflection shot, I just don't think it's flattering for the model. I would have chosen Lee's other shot. I don't like the wardrobe, but I like what he was trying to do, it just came off awkward.

Of the five shots, Pye’s iPhone shot is the best, IMO. Mike Kelly shot seems to have a woman in the way. Lee Morris; what were you thinking, awful, expect a letter from the models lawyer.
