Best things to do in Northern Spain...activities, attractions, food, museums and much more. While the Mediterranean coast of Spain is more popular, here you have 12 great reasons to visit the northern coast. We travelled through the Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia following the northern route of El Camino de Santiago.
This video was produce in collaboration with the Spain tourism board, the tourism boards of Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias, Galicia and The Travel Mob.

Would you like to know the origin of the Industrial Revolution of Spain? Do not forget to visit the Nalón Valley, in Asturias, a valley that has everything, just 15 minutes from Oviedo and 20 from Gijón. In addition, in the valley we have 11 museums, El Museo de la Siderurgia MUSI, El Museo de la Madera y de la Madreña, El Museo de la Minería, La Casa del Agua, La Pinacoteca de Langreo, El Museo de la Apicultura, la Casa Museo de Palacio Valdés, el Centro de Experiencias y Memoria Minera (CEMM) el Centro de Interpretación del Parque de Redes (CIPR) the star culmination for the museum inside the Pozo sotón ( only for brave people who really want to go down and walk through a real mine, where, dressed as miners, they will be able to chop and take their own coal stone) EXCLUSIVE IN ALL EUROPE, there is also the spectacular and new “Ecomuseo del valle del Samuño”, where you will be able to travel in a mining train through some beautiful landscapes, and then get to “La Nueva” village and see its museum there. The Nalon Valley, presents many untapped possibilities, where the entire industrial revolution of Spain began, from there came the coal to be able to supply and move the whole country, or the Duro Felguera, where the metal was worked and today, is still preparing in silence all that area to make it known to the world. Know that in a few years, if their neighbors propose, will be very powerful, nothing has to envy “Cangas de Onís”, as it has so many routes and places, such as the "Ruta del Alba", (the most famous) the Ascension to Peña Mea, the Coto Musel, La Camperona, La Faya de los Lobos, La Trapa The route of the L'Tabayón waterfall and thus with 49 routes that if they organize, they can promote them separately one by one for each activity, for horses, for Quad, for MTB, Trial, Motocross and Enduro, to go on foot, for climbing, caving, kayaking, fishing ... Oh and if you walk along the path of the “La ruta del Trole” and carry a lighter, I will tell you a secret, you will find The “El Mechero de Saus”, IT'S SOMETHING UNIQUE IN THE WORLD !!! (look for information about him)… In the area we also find various Roman bridges which are not at all jealous of the "Cangas de Onis" bridge (as it seems that this is the only one which is promoted in Asturias) the first of these is in "Puente de Arcu" in the "Pola de Laviana", a village in which there is the fantastic "Descenso folklóriko de Laviana" is a awesome Folkloric Descent of the Nalón river, an emblematic party and declared of national tourist interest (look for it on youtube and you will hallucinate) or the "Concurso Nacional Charangas de Sotrondio" party. In addition the whole valley has several Roman and medieval watchtowers throughout the valley from "La Colegiata de Santa María la Real" in “Tanes” next to the reservoir, the "Torreón de Villamorey" in the village of "Sobrescobio", the "Dolmen de la Campa L'Escañal" and the "La Torre de La Quintana y la Casa de los Solís" in "Ciaño" village, the hermitage of " El Carbayu" and more... They have the National Park of "Redes", the “Tanes” Reservoir, where it would be beautiful to finally give the green light and make it navigable and can enhance the rural houses, in "Langreo" are waiting to give the green light to the project to make two river beaches on the river Nalón (the longest and most emblematic of "Asturias") and that would be nice once and for all, you could go down in a kayak, because it is a beautiful river, (and besides, the Sella River is overcrowded) Nearby you have the "Ruta del Alba", with several waterfalls, and there the Restaurant el Molino, where the little ones will be able to fish their own trout and eat it... If you come to see one of their Rallye ("Santo Emiliano Rallye" without going too far) do not leave without visiting the new park of "La Felguera", which is beautiful, with its pond and full of ducks and its birdhouse, there you will be surprised, city where beer is made in the emblematic bar "El Brew Pub Espumeru & Curuxera Brewey of "La Felguera", which is the only place that sells, along with "Sama", to be able to see all its streets clean and well cared for, along with old buildings restored, The square of the City Council of “Sama” where it is cared for in the smallest detail and increasingly full of life. The Valle del Nalón offers excellent cuisine (Menus of the day with three plates of food and homemade dessert for less than 10 euros), and to be able to lower the food, you will have at your disposal a whole walk of more than 20km along the riverbank of the Nalón river (the largest in Asturias) and is practically flat, very careful and paved to run, ride a bike or skate. When you arrive at the "Sotrondio" park, you will see that it is one of the most beautiful parks you can visit in "Asturias", and when you decide to go up and get lost in the mountains, you will find yourself at the top of the hill "El Alto de la Colladiella"... What a beautiful, unspoilt landscape... Go up to the "el Carbayu", observe the views of the valley from the chapel, visit “La Falla de los Lobos”, or the “El Picu de los Tres Concejos”, go up to the "el Mayau Solís", in all of them you will be amazed by the views, You can see mining villages like "Pampiedra" in "La Nueva" village or "La Hueria Carrocera" in "San Martín del Rey Aurelio", see the famous "Pozo María Luisa" in "Ciaño", or the emblematic bridge of braces that crosses the river Nalón in "Sama", and the local shops in their towns are full of quality... Visit “Canzana” and be amazed, what views, what luxury gastronomy they have and cheap, the star dish of the area, the “Cabrito”, which can be order “a la estaca” or asado, delicious . For having, they have four theaters that if they know how to move, they could give great shows, to a shopping center called “Alcampo Valle del Nalón” where they allow us to enjoy several large and spacious cinemas, and the best ¡¡¡For only 4 euros you can see all the premieres !!! I think that this whole area is a success to discover it and that it is still preparing in silence to launch it in tourism in a few years, take advantage to visit it now that it is still virgin and know that you can today, buy a house or apartment for 40,000 euros onwards, or if you want to create your own business for tourism do not miss this area, it is incredible that nobody has yet discovered this part of Asturias.

@@mrvalls ...If you study a little history you will understand that not all nationalist propaganda is true, rather it is the opposite, the Basque provinces were populated by Celtic peoples like more than half of Spain, specifically that area was inhabited by the Caristios, the Vardulos and the Autrigones. Do not trust the Basque Nazionalist Historiography as it has been absolutely distorted since the creation of the Nazionalist movement by the racist Sabino Arana, inventor of Flags, neo-languages and mythological stories that they want to sell as real......
@mrvalls
@mrvalls 3 жыл бұрын
@@ponspit Thank you for your reply. My information comes from my study of linguistics a the Universidad Complutense in Madrid. Your assumption regarding the provenance of my comment as propagated by the "Nazionalist" movement is mistaken. It is a widely held belief by Linguists that Euskera is one of the oldest, if not the oldest existing language in Europe of unknown origen. www.bizkaiatalent.eus/en/pais-vasco-te-espera/senas-de-identidad/euskera-antigua-europa/#:~:text=Euskera%20is%20the%20oldest%20living%20language%20in%20Europe.&text=Renowned%20linguists%20and%20historians%20believe,it%20could%20be%20even%20older. My grandparents were Basque, and I have traveled extensively in Galicia. No doubt there was historic co-mingling and genetic similarites, but the two regions, people and language, could not be more different. More likely, based on well established DNA analysis, ancient Basques populated Wales and Ireland after the Ice Age, and not the other way around. Perhaps you as well could profit from a study of Genetic haplograph groups and linguistics. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Origin_of_the_Basques

For Spanish people Catalonia (including "Costa Brava") is often not a part of "the North" of Spain. When we say "el norte" we usually mean "la Cornisa Cantábrica" area (Basque Country to Galicia), specially among people who live there (although it may depend, specially for Andalusians it may mean all the northern half of Iberia or even everything north of Andalusia). People often understand it culturally, and Catalonia looks more Mediterranean and is a different world from the northern Atlantic coast. It's a bit similar to when US people say "the South" and they never think of California.

El título es Príncipe / Princesa de Asturias It is not the principality of Galicia, it is only Asturias and the thing goes like this since July 8, 1388, when the Treaty of Bayonne was agreed between Juan de Gante and Juan I of Castile, establishing the dynastic reconciliation after the king's assassination Pedro I. By this treaty, Juan de Gante and his wife Constanza renounced the Castilian inheritance rights in favor of the marriage of his daughter Catalina with the first-born of Juan I of Castile, the future Henry III, who was granted as heir to the dignity of Prince of Asturias. Traditionally they have been considered all the heirs of the Crown of Castile princes of Asturias. It seems that the Principality of Asturias was founded with the aim of transferring the origin of the Spanish Monarchy (then called Castilian) to the original Oviedo monarchy, an origin that makes the Spanish in the oldest monarchy in Europe, above the English or the French Prince of Asturias is the main title held by the heir of the Crown of Spain and that historically was the title of the Crown of Castile heir. Its origin, I repeat, dates back to 1388, when Juan I of Castile granted dignity - which gave jurisdiction over the territory to his firstborn son Enrique. In an attempt to overcome the dynastic struggle between the Castilian houses of Burgundy and Trastámara, resort was made to the principality, jurisdictional lordship of greater rank among those that the king can grant and that had not been recognized to anyone. This figure was already consecrated in Aragon -principal of Gerona-, England -principal of Wales- and France -delfined of Vienne-. The title, therefore, was subject to two uses: generic to name the Castilian heir and specific to apply to the infant first in the line of succession when the king effectively transmitted the territory of the Principality, with its government and income. Clarified the historical theme, nothing comes from the principality of Galicia. The title is Prince / Princess of Asturias
