Welcome to an unforgettable journey deep into the Yukon wilderness, just 500km south of the Arctic Circle! Over 12 incredible days, join me on this solo, unsupported 375km paddling expedition that will leave you breathless and inspired.
🚣‍♂️ With just over 2 years of paddling experience, I tackle the untamed wilderness, starting from Quiet Lake and concluding the expedition in Carmacks. This solo adventure is packed with awe-inspiring moments, from conquering 3 lakes to navigating 2 powerful river systems: the Big Salmon and the mighty Yukon itself.
🎣 Get ready for a true outdoor enthusiast's dream! I encounter and cook up beautiful fish such as trout, grayling, and pike, indulging in the taste of freshly caught grayling, fried to perfection. It's a wilderness culinary experience you won't want to miss!
🌦️ Mother Nature doesn't hold back, and neither do I. Experience the thrill of facing intense weather, including lightning storms, hail, and heavy rain, where setting up camp becomes a race against time. Some days, I succeed; others, I embrace the wild rain.
🦟 The mosquito-infested first 4-5 days will have you living vicariously through my bug jacket as I battle clouds of persistent mosquitoes attacking any exposed skin, a testament of resilience.
🪵 Logjams become formidable obstacles this year, requiring portaging through thick willow, brush, and undergrowth. These challenges test my mettle, making every paddle stroke a victory.
💫 My spirits run high throughout the trip as I discover breathtaking camp spots, including picturesque river islands that offer open-air bliss and respite from the mosquitoes. The deep silence and solitude of this pristine wilderness create moments of absolute bliss.
🌅 With the Yukon sun rising before 5 am and setting after 11 pm, the long paddling days are filled with opportunities to explore crystal-clear mountain creeks, go fishing, or simply bask in the purity of the wilderness. Sunny days mean swimming, laundry, and immersion in nature's beauty.
🔥 Distant wildfires add a touch of surreal beauty, filling the air with a hazy, smoky atmosphere that enhances your sensory experience. I take advantage of open sites to enjoy panoramic views and even set up my hammock in treed areas for stunning river views from my sleeping quarters.
🦅 Wildlife enthusiasts will be thrilled! Witness over 10 beavers, chipmunks, woodpeckers, otters, ospreys, and the majestic bald eagles. Plus a graceful black bear crossing the river!
🎣 Fishing enthusiasts, you're in for a treat! I caught over 15 grayling, trout, and several pike during this epic solo journey.
Join me on this exhilarating adventure of a lifetime as I shatter the boundaries of my comfort zone. The Yukon wilderness is waiting to be explored, and if I can do it solo, so can you! Hit that subscribe button, and let's embark on this unforgettable journey together!
🌄 Don't forget to like, comment, and share your thoughts on this incredible adventure! And as always, stay tuned for more exciting expeditions! 🌲

Wow that's gotta be one of the best comments :-) I really appreciate that!! There's always a fine line between overly talking etc but I think the emotional side, and the reactions as you say are what makes it REAL and that's exactly what I'm going for, I'd like you to feel like you are right there with me! Interesting adventure, in start of your video I think.. Omg.. T. Cruise .!??🤔🙄😎Amazing nature you show to us , you are free as a bird.! I like similar action , good to see pathway trough this nature. Only one things, but don't be angry, when you fishing , you beat (shaking) the pole too much while pulling the fish towards you, this is reason why they escape , again I say sorry buddy. You have big LIKE from me ok..! Best regards from Alberta - Canada . ✌🍁🌿🤠🍷🌲💕👏

So… my brother and I did two days on Wye. Camped one night. We made tea and coffee on Trangia but ate dinner and breakfast in the pub. Did 30 miles probably less. We were absolutely knackered and my joints ached for nearly a week!!! You did 12 days in an incredibly challenging environment with the added danger of bears on your own! Cooking and camping and doing portage. Absolutely incredible bravery, resilience and determination. I take my hat off to you! You’re probably fed up of me saying this, but I cannot fathom why the quality of your videos don’t get a larger audience. I follow you and a guy called Wiltshire Man and occasionally view Wildbeare and a few others. They would make this epic adventure in to 4 or 5 smaller chunks. Just a suggestion as what I know about KZfaq and making videos you could write on a postage stamp. Anyway, tremendous effort and quality video 👍👍👍

Hey Dave!!! Thanks so much for the incredibly kind words and encouragement, I don't take it lightly and it does mean a lot to me, so thank you. I don't tired of hearing that, I am pleased you like the video quality, I'm really trying my best to breakout, hopefully KZfaq throws me some kind of bone here lol! KZfaq algorithms are tough to predict! As for parts, I simply couldn't break it up into smaller chunks in a good way, and I didn't want to "drip feed" the adventure!

@@BurtReynoldstash Thanks mate, yeah two of my favourite dudes to follow as well! Would love to do an adventure with them someday! It was the Explorer Plus! I recommend it over the Expedition Plus, as it's slightly lighter. The difference I think is the guard doesn't go all the way up the neck of the paddle. Back in the late 80's, I paddled a solo trip on the Yukon via canoe from Bennett L. to the Bering sea. Lots of wildlife and great primitive camping with gold rush history (at the end of the trip, I also backpacked the Chilkoot trail from Skagway to Bennett L.) well preserved in the Yukon, Canada portion of the river. Insects and bears were less of a problem when I camped on one of the many islands in the river rather than the river bank.

WOW What an AMAZING experience that must have been!! How long was your canoe trip? 80 days approx? 2000 miles!! And then hiking back!!! What a dream trip, with real time to take it all in... so wonderful congrats. Definitely share that re camping on the islands for some reprieve from the bugs and less potential issues with the bears etc.!

I definitely will do this trip. You chose a very good river! "Bethany" looks like a heavy canoe to portage without a yoke. I know the feeling. I learned to canoe in cedar strip and canvas covered canoes that were beasts to portage. It felt like the thwart had cut a groove into my shoulders at the portage end.

Brilliant video Eze, it looks amazing! Canada is definitely on the bucket list for me. A possible plan if you have to carry another canoe without a yoke. Depending on the arrangement, you can sometimes lash two paddles to the thwarts, pointing front to back and have a paddle shaft resting on each shoulder to make a temporary yoke, not super comfy, but way better than nothing.😅

I got a good chuckle from your drone shot of you swimming at the junction of the South Big Salmon River. Back in early September of 2020 at that very same spot we experienced wet snow at noon as we paddled the river. Crazy Yukon weather. We had much lower water and only one log jam. Your video’s are bringing back great memories. Add the Upper Liard River in the Yukon to your wish list as we completed it in late July this year and it was brilliant. Enjoying the voyage with you.
@EzeAdventurer
@EzeAdventurer 10 ай бұрын
Wow yeah can imagine that area being very different in wet snow...!! Was a beauty spot as was the whole area. The Upper Liard sounds awesome, is it a fly in adventure? How busy was it, how many days? Did you see anyone? Wildlife? Thanks for the info, would love to know more about it!!
@user-iv2ds1lk6w
@user-iv2ds1lk6w 10 ай бұрын
Yes accessing the Upper Liard is a fly in canoe trip. This was the first time I went on a guided canoe trip so logistics was handled by guides. We only saw one other group of three on the river for the 8 nights and 9 days in late July. We were four people in total with first flight leaving from Whitehorse and second flight leaving from Teslin as two of us shuttled to this location. Average day was about 6 hours of paddling and distance of 30 klm. Got a pickup shuttle at Watson Lake for a 4.5 hour drive back to Whitehorse at the end of the canoe trip. Spent two nights at the lakes we flew into and explored the lakes with connecting creeks. Water was somewhat low on Caribou Creek and the first day of Upper Liard so first couple of days we were in and out of the boats a number of times. We did not see any wildlife bigger than a beaver which was disappointing but the one group we passed said they saw six moose. The guides were thinking the constant thunder and lightning for most of our trip scared the animals into hiding. Anyways with the canoe skills I see you have on your videos a solo trip would work here but not for me as I have way more grey hair than you. Cheers@@EzeAdventurer

Which Wenonah canoe are paddling for this trip; the Voyager, the Wilderness...? Was there an option for a clamp-on yoke?🤔 You did a great job making do without a yoke!
@EzeAdventurer
@EzeAdventurer 10 ай бұрын
Hey buddy thanks, I think I was too excited in the outfitter and didn't realise re the yoke! I was originally going to use a novacraft supernova 14'10 but unfortunately the previous user had completely trashed it, so I took this one. I forgot what it was sorry, will try to look it up. wasn't the wilderness. It was fast in the water and v responsive. I ended up liking it after a couple of days.
