This video has been immensely helpful - thank you very much. I already have a BA in a different field (Social Work), but lately, the thought of switching to an environmental career has been chasing me. I still have tons of considering to do, but this was a very good starting point, thank you.

I've been wathing some of your career videos to help me make my final decision regarding which field of work inside biology I'll enter, and if possible, I'd love to see some content regarding acoustic ecology/soundscape ecology, because that's what I'm most interested in! thank you so much for the great content!

I might want to become an “Eco- Blogger.” When I did my Personal Branding Assignment. There is a genre called “Green Blogging.” I made a rebuttal of why I don’t like the term Green Blogger because it focuses on the personal experiences of sustainable living of an individual but neglects eco- politics, environmental issues, and ignores the educational/ professional experiences of non- professionals/ professionals. So I prefer Eco- Blogger as a term instead because in my opinion, it would include those areas.

Thank you Kristina. As a 20 year old BA Geographer entering 3rd year, this is incredibly helpful. I would like to be an environmental economist, town planner or consultant (I live in the UK). I don't have a background in law or economics, so I will see. Doing a dissertation on public transport, with a town planning and policy role in mind.

Hi Kristina, I am currently career transitioning and since I have only BA Business Management and have been within customer service for the last years, I thought a good way to start my transition is as Events Coordinator/ Assistant in a wildlife conservation company. Now, after watching your video I have some more options to consider, thank you! If you have any further advise I would appreciate it!

Depends what u wanna do. If you wanna be out in the field I’d say environmental health specialist or environmental health & safety. If you want something in office based then perhaps environmental planner or environmental compliance specialist.

Is it true that wildlife biologists spend a majority of their time in an office in front of a computer rather than out in the field? Love your videos! So helpful to me since I found your channel.
@kristina_lynn
@kristina_lynn 3 жыл бұрын
It depends on your job, some wildlife biologists only go into the field a few weeks out of the year and the rest is in the office, and some (like wildlife field techs) go out almost every day! One of the great things about this job is you can only apply to roles that have a strong field component or office component - depending on your lifestyle and interests

I graduated with a BS in social work and after 2 years in rehabilitation counseling I love the idea of urban planning and advocacy. I didn't know there were degrees specifically for that but should I be considering going back to school ?
@blue-belladonna8393
@blue-belladonna8393 2 жыл бұрын
The good news is that you already have a bachelor's degree. If this is truly the route you want to take, I think going back to school would be a great option if you feel it is financially accessible. If you want to get a second bachelor's, it should only take you a couple years to do so if you are smart and find a school that accepts your first bachelor's as generals. Otherwise, a master's degree will give you a leg up on others. You might need to take some prerequisites before (take at a community college to save money). I think social work might actually put you at an advantage for going into this program. Going back to school doesn't always have to be the answer if you have good connections, best of luck!

Finding a job for an BS in Environmental Science is rough. Even though I studied a thorough GIS and have my OSHA certificate experience of 10+ years is often needed. Further, which makes this more excruciating is the job availability, which is slim itself. No internships available, really hanging by a thread here. Please any advice?

Hello, Mizaz Dominguez, I was once totally stood where you are. I graduated with a BS in EnSci with a bit of experience in BioChem lab experiences (my internship), but no OSHA certificate (so I think it’s great that you got one). Graduated in 2020 right when COVID hit the US really bad. And I just got hired in May 2021. I started applying jobs months before grad, So it took me a whole year to finally get hire as a lab technician in an environmental consultant company here in NYC. It’s true that many job ask for work experience, but many count your experiences from school work or lab and knowledge you learnt too. So, I what I did was, I had my friend and professor helped to represent those knowledge and experiences in a better way like I really own them. I had many rejections and a couple of interviews for different positions. If I had learnt anything from the process till I got hired, they are apply jobs, follow back, and follow through. Dun give up tho. In case if you have further questions or need more help, I am more than happy to response and help. gusnadi.tjong@gmail.com

I’m enrolled in a Natural resources environmental technology program starting this September at a college here in Nova Scotia, Canada. I’m having second thoughts about it. I know I like environmental studies, biology, and wildlife, but I want a job where I get to pick and choose when I’m out in the field, and something that won’t take me too far from Halifax. I’m getting this feeling with the program I’m enrolled in that I’ll be a glorified labourer in the forest and nothing more.

I initially wanted to go to uni to do architecture. I need a bachelors first, since my school only offers it at a masters level, and I chose to do a bachelor in ecology :) Depending on how things go, I might still pursue architecture, but I had also noticed that my school offers a masters in landscape architecture. So now I am at a crossroads: do I pursue the MArch, with me ecology knowledge, and hope that it will also land me some landscape work as well as buildings etc. or do I just pursue landscape architecture?
