I admit to being biased but my personal number one place has to be the Bay of Islands. Mainly because I spent most of my childhood summer holidays there staying at my Aunties place in Russell. My second choice is the Kauaeranga River. Valleystarting in Thames and going up to the Pinicles. As a teenager my friends and I used to go tramping and hunting up the valley whenever we could. In my not so humble opinion. The most beautiful valley in New Zealand. And I have done three of the great walks but that valley is so beautiful.

Good try with pronouncing Taupō. I can tell you were told to think "toe-paw". Primo 👌👍🏻. Loved it. There used to be national advertising back in the day, saying things like "don't leave home till you've seen the country" This is because kiwis love to travel overseas first, then come home to roost, so often they don't get to travel around their own country. Loved this. A very good short preview showing what's possible in 12 parts of the country. Yes there is more, but hey you've already covered more than what most kiwis would see and do in their lifetime. Now next must be an Oscar trophy? 👌☺️

Great tips. One economical way to see the country is to travel by bus when possible and rent a car or van occasionally. That's how I enjoyed the country for seven weeks in 2018/2019. It's magnificent! The buses are super economical, and I saved much money by renting only as needed. I think taking a vehicle on the ferry is quite pricy, so at a minimum you could rent one on the North Island and then pick up another on the South Island.

These are such well put together videos I appreciate the amount of information and you don’t add a bunch of noise and filler. One thing to add is sometimes you have a map and shower where you were and the. Where u were going on the map but u didn’t do it consistently. I really liked the map and hope it can be used more consistently and it’s a thing most travel bloggers don’t do. Especially given the names are not easy to look up. Thank u!

Hi Alexander🙂 We just returned from a two month trip to NZ. We live in a little amazing ski town in BC Canada so we know about beautiful country. New Zealand was incredible. We spent five weeks in the south island and three in the north. Maybe it’s because we do live in a little town in the middle of nowhere we gravitated more to the south island although the north is absolutely stellar! You asked what stood out the most …. That’s a very difficult question. I’m not really going to be able to answer it because there are so many top of the world answers. I’m going to put this one out here though. We did an overnight on doubtful sound, and it was incredible. We walked part of the Routeburn track and it was incredible. We did a day trip out on Milford sound and it was incredible. Our trip on doubtful, was peaceful and spectacular and we’re so glad we did it so I guess that’s my answer. If I actually have to answer that very difficult question. I have one spot whoops no make that two that are my favourite favourite places I’ve ever seen in New Zealand and I’m not going to tell you where they are . Thanks buddy for a great KZfaq channel. We appreciate it. Mike👍🙂

Great video, went green for awhile so missed a portion. :( We moved to Takaka, Golden Bay in August and love Wharariki Beach and Farewell Spit area. We are currently on a 4 week road trip on the South Island presently at Mt Cook which is amazing . We will be doing the boat trip at Doubtful Sound and going onto Stewart Island. I would agree the Milford Trek is awesome, did that a few years back. We will be doing a portion of the Heaphy Trek out on the West Coast as well.

I'm late to the party, having only now discovered your channel. We've visited New Zealand a couple of times, first in 2004. A number of highlights I'd like to add (some of which might no longer be possible: Swimming with wild dolphins at sea from Kaikoura, also viewing albatross at sea there, visit White Island, cruise Lake Tasman (we did that just 2 weeks after the Tasman glacier carved in 2009; huge blocks of ice in the water), drive through the Catlins (water falls, Nugget Point, Mouraki boulders).

Kia ora Alex I appreciate the adrenaline junkie theme but as a mature road tripper I do feel you missed out some magnificent road trip ideas. Bay of Islands would be my starting point at the top idea - Russell & Waitangi / Paihia & of course Cape Reinga. Tamaki Drive in Auckland & around the bays’ - either northern or eastern - is also stunning on a summer’s day. Waiheke Island has some of the most amazing views across the Hauraki Gulf & the most incredible restaurants!!!! The other really unique road trip is the Forgotten Highway - through to Whangamōmona. Ohhh Tokoroa for the carvings to drive past and get some amazing pictures! Ruapehu in the Central Plateau is an amazing drive in winter or summer. Totally agree with your assessment of Hawkes Bay - Art Deco Festival is one of our best festivals!!!!!! Promenading is delightful! Such incredible community fun dancing in the streets late at night -ohh la la ;-) The East Coast drive is also something very magical / spiritual! State Highway 2 down to Wellington is an incredible drive with so many markets & gorgeous little towns to stop and see. There is no where in the South Island that is not incredible to drive. The road to & through the Kaikoura coast is now so different since the 2016 earthquake beyond words beautiful!!! Christchurch & Dunedin / Otago are both extraordinary areas to explore with so many incredible options! We had the most magnificent times exploring Akaroa on one of our last trips down there. And I would be absolutely remiss if I did not mention the Catlins area south of Dunedin. Purakaunui Falls I think are our most beautiful hidden waterfall. And the beautifully stunning area of Fox & Franz Josef - in fact the entire West Coast. Pancake Rocks is a must stop along with Hokitika & Lake Kaniere. We are truly blessed to live in such a beautiful and magnificent country. My top twelve would be: Cape Reinga, Waitangi / Paihia / Bay of Islands / Russell Exploring the cities - Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, & Dunedin Whangamōmona, Waitomo, Tokoroa, East Coast - Whakatane through to Hawkes Bay Taupo to Central Plateau. Simply all of the South Island - down one coast & up the other either via Arthurs Pass or Lewis Pass & stopping at Hanmer Springs for a few days!!! Haha Yes its taken us years to explore all of these areas

I would say that freedom campings really is not as easy as it used to be, a lot of regional councils and areas are very anti freedom campers eg Queenstown / Marlborough / Nelson and I’m sure there’s others, there’s big fines in many places too. However there are some excellent DOC camping grounds all over the place which are very cheap or more expensive top ten etc camp grounds.

Waitakere Ranges (Auckland/Piha area) has a lot to offer, worth staying a couple of weeks around there. Especially Huia, KareKare, Muriwai, and there are actually around 2500 parks in Auckland. The city itself is not appealing to me, but I was born there. We also loved visiting the beaches in the North of Auckland, like Browns Bay, Wenderholm, they are stunning.
