hi guys! it's been a minute since i've done a 'challenge' writing vlog like this (I wonder why). as mentioned in the intro, I was very much inspired by sincerely vee's own 12 hour write-a-thon attempt from a couple months back, so check out her video in the link above!
in this video, I'm working on the first draft of my dark academia adult fantasy, known colloquially as MOTHS. MOTHS is a murder mystery set at ~Parisian alchemy grad school~ featuring an ensemble cast where every character carries a secret they'll do anything to protect.

8k in a day?? that's literally amazing!! congratz!! I also go into every piece of media with a learning mindset (and sometimes a notebook) to see what I can take away from it. It's become more than just leisure, it's productive leisure~ 💞

What a cool experiment! I would love to do something like this, but I know by about hour 4 I'd be flaking because my household gets so much busier as the day goes on lol I need to write in the mornings or it just won't happen.

Honestly, even four hours would be an amazing accomplishment! If you ever get the chance, highly encourage you to block out a little extra time in the mornings to push yourself for a day (although I 100% understand life getting in the way)

Music in a foreign language helps me get in the zone. Not knowing what the words means seems to make me focus on the meaning o my own words (?) and I have to edit less later down the line. This seems like a super cool idea and would be fun for nano writers, especially if they do reverse nano.

That's so interesting! Super glad you've found something that works so well for you, I've gotta try that at some point. Agreed! I might host a 12 hour write-in during Camp or in November :-)

That's a really impressive word count! Fingers crossed that revision goes well. I watched this last night and couldn't comment at the time-- remind me if you went in with an outline of some sort? Good on you for recognizing your limits about writing full-time, though-- ESPECIALLY if you're working and/or going to school it's really important to take of yourself! Something something toxic productivity something

Thank you!! I was shocked by my own power lol. I did have an outline for this project, but a lot has changed since the planning stage, so it's more loosey-goosey than I'd like. Haha exactly, I've been focusing on NOT burning myself out!

Yes, absolutely! I spot weaknesses in my outline during the drafting and revision stages all the time

just write. You are doing just fine. You did more than enough in a day. J.k. Rowling is focused on about 600 words per day. Quality and good fiction. Making things visual. Stephen King is about 2000 words before noon. That 6000 words challenge is a good idea. Good drill. You are encouraging me for my second book. 10 years fiddling around and being helpful. I would start soon. Thanks for being there.

-- You can record the whole screen or take a screenshot, instead of using your phone camera to record that picture. That would look much better than your hand shaking and with your reflection on the computer's screen. -- Whoa... I see that you are a MS Word user cuz that looks like a Word program layout.
