It should be noted that there's an offset of the loss ( although decrease) by the motor which is also maintaining the cardan shaft in motion. Note that when close-circuit is actionned both units are already in motion which implies less resistance when self motion is actionned. I might not be good at physics but simple experience shows when driving that your car doesn't come to a full stop immediately when something goes wrong. It all depends on the initial speed prior to the occurrence of the outage.
