After months of waiting for a visa appointment, you finally get to arrange that trip to Europe. You don't want your application to be rejected for anything as silly as a missing period. It's a nightmare to have your Schengen visa application denied just before your planned vacation. And taking extra precautions all the way through is your greatest bet for avoiding rejection. It's very uncommon for people to make silly blunders on the subway that leave them feeling let down. Here is a list of 12 common mistakes to avoid while applying for a Schengen visa.
1. Schedule your flight before your visa appointment.
Due to a lack of staff and an increase in demand for visa appointments, diplomatic offices are struggling to keep up with the recent uptick in tourism. Depending on your country of origin and your final destination, obtaining a visa appointment might take months. It is recommended by travel agencies that you wait to buy your real tickets until after you have secured a visa appointment, even though you will need to present evidence of travel in order to apply for a Schengen visa.
2. Reserving your accommodation
Uncertain vacationers often utilize third-party booking services to reserve fully refundable lodging and transportation, then immediately cancel after receiving their confirmation voucher. They don't realize that the officer may still verify if the booking is valid at any time. People often engage in dubious practices, such as altering tickets in a Word document or preventing confirmed reservations on secondary websites. Verify the authenticity of your ticket and the legitimacy of your reservation to avoid having your visa denied and being sent to the back of the line.
3. Mistaking the Type of Visa to Apply For
The Schengen Visa is divided into three categories, designated as A, C, and D. For short stays in airports inside Schengen countries, such as for connecting flights, a type-A Schengen Visa is required. The Schengen visa type-C, which allows you to stay for up to 90 days in the Schengen Area during a six-month period, is the most popular visa type for travel to the Schengen countries (180-day period). While a Schengen Visa of type D (National Visa) permits you to remain in the Schengen Area for up to a year, the shorter Schengen Visas only allow you to stay for 90 days. Both the Schengen Visa types C and D include subcategories that are defined by the reason for your trip. Tourists, businesspeople, medical patients, students, students visiting relatives, etc. may all apply for Schengen Visas of type C. You may also apply for a National Visa of Type D if you need one for job, family reunification, or academic purposes. Among the mistakes to avoid while applying for a Schengen visa, this one is quite common. Therefore, when applying for a Schengen visa, it's important to make sure you're applying for the correct visa for your intended length of stay and purpose of trip. If you want to visit relatives in Europe but apply for a Visa as a tourist, for instance, you may not be granted entry.
4. Not ticketing a return flight
A Schengen travel visa only allows you to stay in the Schengen area for 90 days before you have to leave. If you are unable to verify that you'll not outstay your visit by submitting a return ticket, your visa request will be denied. Therefore, it is essential that you reserve your return ticket in order to ensure that you return within the specified time frame. Your ticket will serve as your guarantee that you will get back to the station before the deadline. In order to avoid having your Schengen Visa application denied, you should schedule a return flight.
