I’ve always wondered what the story of the Thai was and I don’t doubt you for never wanting to talk about it! What a horrible experience, I’m sorry that you had to go through that! Manifesting a Thai just sneaking into your plant room one day that will change your mind lol.

I'm with you about the Paraiso Verde, but the main reason I won't own one is because of the temperature needed to keep the variegation (this is what has been discussed by experts in the International Aroid Society group). Supposedly, it's not just the lighting but also warm temperatures that keep variegation going on this particular plant. For me, I'm not sure that I can keep it that warm in my house during the winter months (around 75F), the humidity would just be sucked right out of the air. I'm pushing it at 72F!

I bought a Thai for $500 NZD (around $400 CAD) back in 2020/21 and have not had a single issue with it thankfully (aside from browning in some of the sectoral variegation but that’s a me problem because I underwater everything + it was in terracotta cause I was scared it might rot). I chopped it up a month ago, kept the top cutting + base plant and haven’t had any issues with rot/rerooting. I did leave the cuttings to harden off for a number of hours and they all had aerial roots. I rooted in sphagnum and have only just potted my cutting in pon to see if it reduces the browning I’ve been getting. I still have the base plant in soil so if it doesn’t like pon I’ve got a backup! Some people who bought Thai’s from the same seller as me had major rot issues but I think some specimens are easier care than others. Before I cut it, my Thai was growing faster than my plain green Deliciosa and matured really quickly with little effort on my part. I would definitely recommend trying again with a Thai, just be careful with who you’re buying from and make sure you’re buying an established plant instead of a cutting if you want to minimise the chances of loosing the plant.

When you cut a philodendron melanocrysum, do the new leaves that grow revert back to a super small size like from the original plant? Seems like that would make it so hard for most…

About your dental surgery.... I work in a dental office if you get the nitrous (laughing gas) if you take your anxiety medication as well the gas will kick that in more & help you to relax a lot more. I work at an office that does conscious sedation & when we can't give all the other medication that goes along with it we give that to our patients. You need a driver if you do that. Good luck!

I got a single node Decursiva cutting ages ago. I basically abandoned the plant outside as it was such a slow grower, but it seemed to like it as it went from small, non-fenestrated leaves to larger, fenestrated leaves with no effort/regular watering on my part. Never had a single runner on the plant 😅

if someday you decided to give Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma another chance, try growing it in less light and let it climb something since begining. I have two of this plant, both were cuttings from the same mother plant, one in high light and one in low light, wierdly the low light one's leaves are mature and more than twice the size of the leaves of high light one. I have never had her on a moss pole. she's just climbing the wall around our TV, doing well even with low humidity and my inconsistent underwaterings and I just gave her kelp extract as fertilizer a few times. the only downside is that the internode space in the low light one is much longer but it's probably because she's growing in very very low light (she's on the wall next to a window so can't really get the light that's coming through the window)

I was referred by my dentist as well to get by wisdom teeth extracted by the jaw surgeon/oral surgeon because of 90 degree angle growth and close to nerve. Overall it was a painless experience with only local anesthesia, the only thing that was off putting was the sound of the blade/saw when they need to cut away some jaw bone. After that I experienced quite some swelling for a few weeks, but pain wise it was pretty OK because of the painkillers and antibiotics. Good luck with the surgery!

Such a bummer about the Thai, I would have returned it right away. Can you image I had the exact opposite experience with my Thai? I bought a large Thai (8 leaves with the 3 newest about 2 feet long) for a very good price 350 euro at a nursary. The seller said: don't worry, this is a very slow grower, maybe 1 leave a year... Well, let me tell you, it grew 5 leaves in 16 months time, the petioles are 3 feet plus 2 feet of leave, growing in a 90 degrees angle to the plant which makes the plant like 10 feet wide and about 6 feet high, taking up almost my entire living room. I can't chop it because the internodes are so short. Tried to sell it but nobody has that space...I would to give it to you for free but how to send a plant like this from Holland to Canada ...🤷

100% agree on the watermelon pep. It's beautiful but I tried 3 times and it never grew right for me. Also no dramatic plants for me unless I can keep them in standing water like colocasia and calathea. So no peace lily's polka dot plant, schismatoglottis, cissus, etc. Also no to most hoya. They don't like me so they grow lots of runners but few new leaves. Plus I'm an underwaterer so they get root rot too easily for me also. Meanwhile, alocasia and anthurium love me so those are my main sqeezes 😊

A similar thing happened with my Sordori; it kept getting stuck. eventually, after it happening for the past 7 leaves .... I decided to yank it out as soon as I saw it. The leaf looks so bad, has holes, etc., because I forced it out. But ever since, it hasn't done it again. If a leaf is stuck and it's a fast grower, it will continue to get stuck until you yank one out aggressively, I think... Anyway, aha. It seems to happen most often to cuttings from a mature plant that are smaller because they've been taken off. That's the conclusion I've come to. I'm probably totally wrong aha

Several things of course: First and foremost Thai constellation lady should be shamed publicly. I know it's not your vibe but she stole a lot of money from you and I wouldn't let it slide. I know you said you don't hate her but what she did was evil and she should learn not to ever do it again. If I was in your group I'd like to know what are the people I should never buy from. So yeah. Anyway, you made me to swear (again) never to buy an expensive plant from a private seller with cash. I grow spruceana and it wants to shingle like dubia when not mature, I'm getting small leaves but no runners when grown on a wide pole with lots and lots of fertilizer. I think those more difficult monsteras just really need much more nutrients than we are used to giving them. Paraiso needs heat, tried and true. If anyone loves the look put it on a heatpad :) it will keep the variegation. Scindapsus are not vining plants and sooner or later will grow a runner if grown down. If kept climbing they are actually pretty easy imo I killed plenty of plants but I don't necessarily say I would never buy them again. The only exception are opuntias. I cannot stand those tiny little spikes getting everywhere. It triggers me to even think about it :)

I was looking through your recommended products. 🪴 What are you using to clean the EFN off from your plants? I am glad you are feeling better. I always appreciate your video’s. 🙌👍🙌

Might be controversial because many people love this plant, and it is really iconic in the plant community, but I'm never owning a gloriosum again, and probably no other crawlers either. In my experience they're so much more high maintenance than your usual philodendrons. It takes up a lot of space due to its growth pattern, and I could not get its preferred substrate mix down. I potted it in a dense mix (because I assumed it needed to be more dense because it grows on the ground) and it developed root rot. I made it way chunkier and its wimpy roots couldn't get a hold of anything bigger than a tiny sand pebble. It's so prone to root rot, and I'm guessing that goes for all crawlers as well. The gloriosum started out as my pride and joy and it fell from grace and left me heartbroken

I love mine. I bought one baby plant for $40aud before they were more available, and then a second when I saw a beautiful huge specimen in my big box for half the price. I’ve not had any trouble and it’s gorgeous, absolute centre piece of my collection. Some plants just don’t like us though haha

I LOVE all the gloriosums but I 100% understand your feelings! I find that I’m really not great at growing crawlers. They all seem to do great until they reach a certain size. And then they if ur succumb to a very bad case of pests or EFN which makes me just angrily chop it back down to a stump. 🤦🏻‍♀️
