Left Britain in 1975 , been back three times, two for funerals and one to show the kids (adults) where we used to live. Every time I went back it was more overcrowded and congested, average to terrible weather. The only certainty for me was the decision made by my wife and I all those years ago was the best 46 pounds (Assisted passage) we ever spent!!

Hello 👋, I’ve been subscribed for a long time - I enjoyed watching your videos as it reminded me of all the reasons why we left UK . When I first got here & went to the supermarket for the 1st time- I was greeted with such enthusiasm I thought the girl serving me was talking to her friend behind me - so I turned around- nobody was there! She was talking to me!! I must have seemed very off to her as I was just not used to it ! Just a grunt was a U k shopping experience!! & since going back- it’s worse . Thanks for reminding me how wonderful Australian people & this beautiful country is 🇦🇺😊

Tea is often drunk at home here as well as coffee. Coffee at a cafe though; it seems a waste to order tea out.

Aussie here; visited UK & Ireland last year and had no trouble striking up conversations everywhere I went. “Smile and the world smiles with you” my sister always said.

Hello. Loved your commentary. As a Canadian migrant in Australia, who has been living in Australia the mid 1960s, I think I can speak with some experience. I lived in Canada, the United States, Great Britain and finally Australia. I'm not young. I've been back to Canada and the USA several times over the years, and I don't belong there. In my time living in the U.K., I quickly realized that I didn't belong there either. When I landed in Adelaide in South Australia in the mid 60s, I quickly knew that this was the land I belonged to. In the time I have lived here, I have married, raised a family of Australians, and unashamedly see myself as an Aussie, albeit with a Canadian accent. I love this country.

washers in the kitchen is probably just a result of homes in the UK being very old and not designed with a washer in mind. The most straightforward place with space, water inlet and outlet is the kitchen.

My wife and I went to Australia in April , Perth to be exact. On one of our days there, we decided to drive to wave rock, didn't look far on Google maps, about an inch n half away , anyway driving along and every time we past someone coming the other way they would wave , the English version ís wanker sign. On that road trip we drove down possibly the longest road in Australia, with no one on it , it just went on and on in to distance. Will definitely go back. Loved it

I think the unfriendliness thing is more a south of England phenomenon. In places like Birmingham you are quite likely to get chatting to people at the bus stop or whatever. One thing I noticed after moving to Hungary then Croatia is people are more willing to be a nuisance. Brits will hurry across a zebra crossing so they don't hold up the traffic. In car parks the pedestrians give way to cars rather than just walk in front of them. In supermarkets the Brits will put the trolley somewhere that does not block the aisle. I only noticed this behaviour when living in countries that don't do such things.

You can get a sandwich and a drink for $8 at 7-eleven, pretty sure other servos have similar offers. There are meal deals here, they're just at a different type of shop.

Meal deals common here in Ireland. & we get much the same weather as the UK ,but the Irish are laid back happy bunch ,its our culture to be friendly & smile at people ,so its definitely not the weather here that makes us such a happy bunch 😅 & i know many Brits who arent grumpy i think you cant genralise it , there's negatives & positves in all countries ,im sure theres grumpy people in Austrailla too & places with litter 😊

Regional accents in Australia do exist, but they are extremely mild compared to the differences in other places like UK. I've lived in NSW & QLD and the only noticable difference is the pronounciation of 'pool' as 'pewl'.

I was really saddened on my last trip to the UK seeing all the rubbish everywhere, and yes, even in beautiful, remote parts of northern England and Scotland. I love the UK (half of my family live there) but it definitely was something noticeable coming from Australia

@@georgecane541 Well, I hope it’s not quite finished. I’m visiting there in late August/early September so I hope it’s not as shite as many people have been indicating. Back in 2019, Manchester looked like it hadn’t been fixed from when the Germans bombed it in WW2. Then, I’m heading from the south west so hopefully it’s in “better nick” than many of the places I’ve seen in the north. Grüße aus Australien. Tschüss.

You can find meal deal sandwiches, drinks and chips at most petrol actions. You will, however, need to buy them separately.😊

Daintree tea, a product of Australia, is a delicious mixer tea to have with a different brand. I can't have caffeine any more, but I used to love my cuppa. None of my family were ever coffee drinkers.

If you want a meal deal, head to 7/11. They always do a sandwich and drink combo and often have a snack one, too. Plus I have it on authority from my husband (I don’t drink coffee) that it’s pretty good.

As a family in the UK looking to move to Aus, I am loving the videos but new to them, do you have a video relating to healthcare costs? So if adults need a big operation randomly would it be expensive? If we leave the Uk do we lose all rights in the UK? If we own and keep our home in the UK how would that work? When did Britain first get reticulated water? A lot of the houses already existed and got on tap in the kitchen, with the loo and bath added on to the back of the house. Yeah, a washing machine would be better in the bathroom, but why do they keep doing it in new homes and renovated homes.

I'm an old fck, so I home brew. I think it's curious how accents aren't different with location in Aust, there's a few different terminology or cultural differences, but they are pretty minor compared to say England or America.

Accent differences in Aus are definitely less pronounced, but certainly there. There's a broader accent in the North (Qld and parts of Northern NSW) and a more refined (more British, dare I say) in SA. It's definitely not as distinct as some of the different ones you get in the UK. But for something interesting, look up a video of Australian sport (especially cricket) from the 1940s or 50s - the accents are definitely Australian, but quite different to what you hear today.....

Ha. After 50 odd years and multiple aborted attempts to complete my citizenship application due to sheer exasperation, finally was able to dedicate the time needed to get it done. Be prepared to stab your eyes out..the process is atrocious! Lost count of how many time my DOB was requested! BTW… I be almost always felt Australian, and this was just a formality that needed to be done…I’ve just been slack!

Haha , I’m here in England now . Been in London for a while and have been getting the meal deals from sainsbury and a few other places . Our supermarkets in Australia don’t make sandwiches, not many anyway .I’ve noticed a lot prepared packaged meals in England too . I dunno , maybe Brit’s don’t like cooking lol . I’ve had fish and chips a few times , I’m in Dover at the moment. It definitely is a false conception that Brit’s make the best fish and chips . No way . I’ve had much better in Australia. Actually, I’m missing Australia right now . Taxi in Gatwick was $40 for a 5 minute ride to the hotel !!!!

I assumed the thing UK beat Aus on, food wise, would be fish and chips. Aus is crazy inconsistent with Fish and chips, BUT you can reduce the bullshit by ordering "battered snapper" and pay an extra couple of bucks. I don't believe "snapper" is a specific species, all it means is "a species that is edible".

Snapper is definitely a species of fish - Pagrus auratus, and not as good as flake or flathead battered [flake being shark]. I find fish and chips varies greatly in the UK too. I've had good and bad there, just like here in OZ. Indian food however, is far superior in the UK than it is here. Whereas Thai and Chinese food is way better here.

My mum was from Kent and I have to say the people in the north of Scotland are slightly friendlier than southern english people in general despite the disgusting weather up here. I can relate to the fake politeness and indirect manner of speech though, which can be irritating. Antisocial behaviour (youth and adults) and casual littering is a nightmare out here as well despite being a semi-rural area, there's not much pro-social behaviour. Kids toss rubbish into my garden daily after walking back from their lunch break. Combine the hypocritical culture, rise in crime and decay of infrastructure & public services and there's not much worth staying in Britain for

I have to say unfair comments on the brits Ross. In Australia we found people highly stressed, depression rate high (shared by the UK , yes) and constantly moaning about the heat!!!! Brits are ones to get out whatever the weather and make the best of it even when raining. With the milder temps comes beautiful,stunning countryside remember?! Please dont always focus on the negative of England as like in any country you can have your miserable sods anywhere you live. X

10 years ago, I spent 8 weeks in England and Scotland before the UK was lost to the Woke. It was a very nice 8 weeks playing 'Spot the Pommie' amongs other activities but coming home to OZ was a wonderful finale to my holiday.
