Delete Hole is a powerful command for sure. Along with Move Face. That bit on face fillet is very interesting, thanks for sharing. Some of my "secret" techniques: turning on auto-dimensioning on sketch creation, creating new planes via ctrl+dragging, changing selected states to more pleasant colors, single key shortcuts (M for measure, D for dimension, C for construction, N for normal to, etc), S key + right click everything, lowering spin box increments to be more useful, offset 0 (copy) surface -> untrim surface.

Thanks for sharing these!! This is sure to help a lot of people be faster in general, but the copy surface thing is HUGE and I can't believe I forgot to include it in this video! For anyone just coming across this comment, what I mean is there is no 'Copy Surface' Command in SW. If you need to copy a surface (or copy a face of a solid into a surface), you launch the 'Offset Surface' command and type in a value of 0 (zero). If I make an appendix video to this, I'll be sure to include that one for sure. Thanks for the save, @J !

Thanks!! I'm glad you enjoy them. Views are less important to me, though its nice when something catches on! What really drives me is the real life impact that these have on people. I went to the SolidWorks conference in Nashville earlier this month. A subscriber found me and told me that she passed her cert with my help. That alone is worth more than even the biggest numbers!

I think the views are less cause most people don't even click/open long videos, honestly even I wouldn't have clicked this video considering the duration. But knew he teaches well from past short videos.

Did anyone else feel like you were learning 3D modeling techniques from Ice Cube? Seriously though, these tips were so awesome! I'm trying to get better at using surfacing and I've been finding it very frustrating when I get errors and also which surfacing tool to use. I appreciate your explanations and the "why" behind them. Very helpful. I've watch many other surfacing tutorials and most of them demonstrate the tools but don't explain the technique. Also they never have errors popup to explain what the errors mean or how to recover from them. The small humor you put in was great.

Nice Video. I think the part I liked most was hearing you failed it the first time. I just failed it today. I was totally unprepared. I only have Surfacing and Mold Tools left out of the CSWPA tests before I can start preparing for the CSWE. I don't really ever use surfacing much so its somewhat foreign to me. I currently teach beginner and advanced SW at the local community college. As you can see from my videos I do mostly parametric stuff that ends up getting CAM'd out for CNC work. Shoot me a message if you can... would love to connect via FB/Twitter or Linked In.

Thanks for telling your experience. It can be tough to admit that one of these exams got the better of you. In my case, it certainly wasn't the last exam I failed either. My road to CSWE was full of setbacks and failures. It's just part of the learning process! As a matter of fact, when I was recording this video, I started rambling about how I failed and how I came back from it. I cut it from the video because it was like 5 minutes and I wanted this video to be easy to consume and it was already getting long. Maybe, I can post it so you can get the story about how I got my surfaces cert. Or maybe I can post another video telling my full cert journey. I have about 26 right now, some of them you can only get as a reseller, but I'm not sure if everyone wants to hear about that. But anyway, I'd be happy to connect with you! maybe, we can carve out a bit of time and get you some pointers about how to do better the next time!

Great tutorial! Hope solidworks pushes surface modelling to be more robust. By the way what was the short key to hide and show the parts??
@VirtualFlat
@VirtualFlat 4 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it!! I've spoke with SW developers before and there's been a shift of putting R&D resources into stability (robustness) rather than new features, so I am hopeful. and to answer your question, its the Tab key! Hover+TAB hides, Hover+SHIFT+TAB shows. Also pressing CTRL+SHIFT+TAB shows a silhouette of all hidden parts, though I don't use that one as often, its mostly just the first two.

where can i learn to become a CSWE
@trabadix
@trabadix 3 жыл бұрын
There are 3 steps that you must follow, get the CSWA, then the CSWP and then a minimum of 4 CSWPA modules that can be any of the following: Sheet metal, Drawing tools, Surfaces, Weldments, and Molds, and at the end you can make the CSWE, but according to solidworks and most of us who handle this program, it is the most difficult certification because it covers the entire program, that is, that is why they require you to meet the above requirements and certifications, you can be self-taught or pay for some courses, There are many solidworks certified people who provide these courses, search the internet for the one you like the most, and as I always say, everything is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration, good luck!
