You can get some serious size and width if you record or bounce the track 6 to 8 times. EQ1 of them in mono for the lowest base frequency. EQ two more for the high end only and pan each one left and right.. and use the Haus effect on the right signal Now you have three tracks left. On one of those EQ to catch only low mid and add mild distortion or harmonics. Then pan left. EQ another for high mids and add reverb and haus effect then pan right You now have one final track that you can process with delays or comb filters or tremelo or any other type of creative processing you want to add texture or color and slowly blend it in set down the middle in stereo mode to add the final touches and tone to your sound Hope that helps

Track delay is also the way to widen up the sound

Pan hard left and hard right, does that mean that you only need to make slight eq changes on each side to make that widening trick to work? Example left side boost mid 2db and right side cut 2db from the mid.

I find Haas effect is a great way to winden drums but only really works if the delay you use has a Mono option built in. That way when dropping your channel into Mono you dont loose any volume or loose of that wide sound you just created. Doing it in stereo is just pointless if your going to loose it all on Mono speakers. Stereo Widen plugins sound great but also makes your track sound shit when in mono because it just disappears.
