Nice to see a video that demonstrates some knowledge and problem-solving. I've seen too many videos that go like "I don't know what that thing in the middle is, but if you glue some magnets in, you get FREE ENERGY" which is a crock.

180 Amp ? Think! The wiring of that alternator can not carry even 50 Amp !

@@coolfire2 I ended up not building it. I didn’t think through the location. Essentially the location was such that I would put myself at some great liability so I’ve shelved the idea. If I move and have a better location to use it, I’ll still try. 😀

You didn't repair the alternator, you by-passed the damaged voltage regulator, thus; unleashing the full unregulated potential of it's power which will burn things out. Let's say; for example; somebody were to take your advice on (repair and reuse) to Generator using Laptop Charger, as you say? They would burn out their Laptop Charger, the battery in the Laptop and probably burn-down the house their living in as well. If you say; repair the alternator, then; you should fix what is broken, or learn what happens when you don't control electricity.

Is there a way to convert it to motor. I took the rectifier apart and did continuity checks on the leads to try and identify them. The 3 leads on 1 side have continuity with each other and the 3 leads on the opposite side have continuity with each other. How would I wire that to esc??

Hi, Love the videos. I have a boat and come with a diesel engine. I was wondering what kind of set up I can use the alternator both for recharging the batteries and running the boat as an electric motor with a switch. I will connect the alternator to the shaft with 90 degree great box. thanks for your help in advance.

If you do it like that you will bypass the regulator . If you do that in a car it will charge at 100% all the time and the volt will probebly be around 17-18 volts. It will overcharge your battery and destroy it.

in that case you should buy an external voltage regulator

You can not use it back in car like this. As its voltage reulator is bypassed it will generator variable voltage with different engine rpm from zero to more than 40 volts. This overcharge you battery boiling away it's water in hydrogen and will damage all electronic permanently. Car headlight will become brighter and dimmer with varying engine rpm.

I got lost there in the end, because basically you didn't actually show how to use the alternator for any useful purpose, except to light that little bulb. you bypassed the voltage regulator? how is that useful?
