Hey Chris! First of all I love your videos! you always offer great explenation on very small details. but i have a question regarding multiple led strips. do i need to use multiple controllers for multiple strips or can i use one controller and send the data to the multiple strips with a wago clamp for example? So I would use one controller and send the data from it to the floor lamps, the ceiling Leds and the Leds around the TV? Greetings from Austria!

Hey Chris, your videos are fantastic. My problem is that my bench setup like yours works, but the ESP32 controllers keep burning up. I see other post with the same problem but no good solution. I am using the USB-c ESP and 12v or 24v and my guess is the ground or data is back feeding and killing the ESP32. I am using a USB-c power source for the esp but a 12v power supply for the the LEDs, the 12v + only goes to the LEDs so it’s the data or the ground killing the boards.

excellent content brother - quick question can the ESP32 drive the 15m replicating the same sample you demonstrate with the Domestic Automation ? ( 12v and 24v ) - also for 15-20 Meters run do you recommend 24v to avoid power injection?

For what it’s worth I recently ran 96’ using a 12v 150w psu 30 led/m ws2811 strips end to end with power injected on the end of the run in my entry and can get 100% brightness on white without any issues at all. I am also using an esp32 GLEDOPTO controller on a single gpio. No flicker and colors are perfect.

Everything i keep reading online keeps talking about putting an inline fuse between the strip and the power supply, but no videos i watch online have that. Everyone online seems to be adamant about using an inline fuse. What are your thoughts here and why don’t you use them? Also I’m in the UK and we have fuses in our plugs, but I’m guessing that just protects the house wires between.
@Mr.Meme01

I wouldn't worry about it if it's only 5v
@umirza
@umirza 5 ай бұрын
@@Mr.Meme01 I'm using 12v now, would you recommend it for that?
5 ай бұрын
Voltage is not the issue, it is current so usually with 5V you have more current. Inline fuses are generally needed when you have multiple strips / injection points powered from a big power supply so if a strip fails it might not trigger the overcurrent protection from the power supply but it still be can too much current for the strip to be a fire hazard. Quinled has an excellent article about this in his website
@Mr.Meme01
@Mr.Meme01 5 ай бұрын
@ he said "the strip" so I'm assuming he only has one 5m max strip, I wouldn't worry about putting a fuse on that if it's 5v especially since the power supply is likely small. He said it's 12v so even with just one and smallish power supply the hazard is low. But just to be safe yeah he should put in a fuse on it.
@Mr.Meme01
@Mr.Meme01 5 ай бұрын
@@umirza it depends on how strong your power supply is, if it's stronger than what can power 1 strip, yeah you probably should add it. It's not an absolute must but it's always better to just add extra safety measures and forget about it instead of leaving it and then in the back of your mind you worry about it.
