Driving a tractor is fun, not to mention a necessity for many of us. But it does come with risks, just like operating any piece of heavy machinery would. In fact, the USDA says a tractor is involved in more deaths than anything else on farms. So, watch this video and make sure you know all of these safety features your tractor has, and how you can avoid dangerous situations before you're in them. Many might seem obvious, but we know everyone has different backgrounds and experience, and it sure won't do any harm to take a refresher before the next time you climb on your compact or subcompact tractor. Since we're talking safety, anytime you get off the tractor (forklift, loader, ect.) you should lower the bucket and Implements. It's such a hazard (& pet peeve) when someone shuts down a machine and gets off with everything left in the air.

My Cub Cadet mower has the same PTO kill switch on it. You can turn the key to the middle position and press a button to override it and allow you to reverse while running the blades until you turn off the PTO or the engine, then it resets. It’s actually a nice feature because it always reminds me to look behind me before I reverse.

My 4052R seat switch is to sensitive, even wearing a seat belt. Wish they would just put a time delay relay in the circuit. Enjoy the videos. Love my wallenstein 52s chipper.

Oh my Lord, I wish they had ash trays in them. My husband's always flickin' them cigar butts into the straw fields. This past summer he nearly burnt down our barn and the neighbor's house. He got home, left the tractor in the driveway and when it got dark you could see the flames. Good thing they blew out by themselves. I liked the Wile E. Coyote quick segment (and the 'no' buddy touch---adds a little flair to your vids). Keep it up! (nyuk nyuk).

Looking good Rosie. I have left parking brake on. Another annoying thing I have done is forget to raise the ballast box. I have green marks on the floor to prove it.

Rosie making sure you are safe. She would be in that buddy seat I am sure. 🙂 It can never be said enough, don't trust the parking break very highly, even on brand new tractors. That is a good video topic, how to adjust the brakes.

Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous 2021Courtney! A former associate was mowing his riverbank and felt the tractor go over, whereby he "bailed" off of the upper side, the tractor didn't roll but he slid down the bank and the tractor (with MMM still running) settled on top of him. Lots of hospital time! I have been into off road Jeeping and had an inclinometer laying around and put it on my tractor, it does give me a "reference point" My property is hilly and it does help. Peeling a deer this year with it hanging on the FEL and the tractor got "light" on one side, went and grabbed the ballast box, problem solved. Thanks!!

Thanks for the tip about the “Tilt-Meter”. I have been looking for something like this for my SSV65. Working on a hillside with the lake at the bottom, things get a little puckered. Be good to know what angle I’m actually sitting at.

We don't have SMV signs we have to have a flashing safety beacon instead. The steel pto cover on our new 4series is a pain as we have a hydraulic quick hitch for trailers and you can't see the hook , even leaning out the back window. Just wish they had put slots or small holes so you could see through it. I'm with you on the handbrake , even though I use it all the time I still forget about it. As for a tilt meter , my pants tell tell me how much of a slope it is , when they go brown I've gone far enough 😂

Yes... the parking brake forgets to release itself at times when I'm ready to move on. Suppose I should check to see if any adjustment options are at hand. Hate when I turn around and see my tractor not where I left it...lol

On my kubota setting the parking brake allows you to get off without it shutting down. Had a bunch of snow under the seat and it kept stalling when I got over 2 mph. Figured it out quickly but if only I had watched this video.

A friend of mine got a used riding mower. It came with the seat safety switch disabled. The first time he used the mower (not used to how it handled), he turned too sharply at higher speed with the PTO engaged, got thrown off the mower and it ran over his foot. One blade sliced through his shoe and left a huge gash in his heal (I saw the picture, it was bad, but it could have been a lot worse).

Question on the PTO shaft how do you repair the plastic hole that the chain link connects to. Mine broke of course

Growing up the Farm Bureau use to have equipment safety videos for kids the lady's name in the videos was Sally. Didn't get it as a kid, but Safety Sally may have saved countless lives.

I believe, by law you are supposed to remove it or cover it when trailering a piece of equipment with an SMV sign because it technically is no longer a slow moving vehicle.

my new holland has a flashing brake light and beeps when in gear with brake on, but i still; forget it all the time too. finally added a label next to the rpm guage that says "remember brake" :(

I run my pto stump grinder when I'm out of the seat on my 2019 3038e, but otherwise the tractor WILL die if I exit the seat while in gear. Just FYI.

Sweet. Must be a new feature. Can't on older models. One of the big faults with the series. Nice to see them correct it. In fact, the owners manual specifically mentions that you can only operate the PTO while in the seat. manuals.deere.com/omview/OMLVU28456_19/toc.html. Reference section titled Using Power Take Off.

These safety tips don't apply just to tractors, most ride on lawn mowers have at least three of these. I know mine has the no start in gear, reverse implement operation (RIO), can't get off if pto is running or if the mower is in gear, etc...

The greatest safety device is the thing between your ears. All these other safety devices are backups in place should that first line of defense fail. Don't get in the bad habit of disengaging your brain and relying on the tractor's built in safety devices, because they too can fail.
