As requested by our subscribers: finally a seal compilation. Join seal rescuers Naude, Antoine and Denzil from Ocean Conservation Namibia (OCN) on a morning patrol at Pelican Point, where they rescued a record breaking amount of Cape Fur Seals.
It was a very cold morning in Namibia, and many seals had come to shore to warm up for a bit from the cold water. Because so many seal were resting on the beach, we were able to spot so many entangled animals. It is a huge achievement for OCN, but it is also a sad record and reminder that there is still a lot of work to be done.
All animals were young pups. Many of them venture further and further into the ocean to look for food and explore their surroundings, and they often bring plastic such as fishing line, fishing net, rope, rubber or straps back to shore. Fishing line seems to be by far the biggest problem. The line is often very thin and can easily be overlooked by us, until the damage is visible because of injury and infection. 🦭

@BaldUglyMonkey There is a world between humanizing animals and thinking humans are completely unique in every single way. Elephants have been shown to be able to mourn the death, dolphins can recognize there own mirror image etc. Honestly is it to far fetched to think this seal realised he was being helped, instead of attacked?
