This presentation reviews the normal characteristic features of fetal cardiac views on ultrasound. Specifically, we will focus on the nine cardiac diagnostic planes automatically generated by the Fetal Intelligent Navigation Echocardiography (FINE) method. Diagnostic planes of the fetal heart have been previously reviewed in a prior lecture of this series.
Our intent with this presentation is to help sonologists understand normal fetal cardiac anatomy in general.
FINE is a novel sonographic method to examine the fetal heart. This method automatically generates and displays nine standard fetal cardiac views simultaneously. It simplifies the fetal cardiac examination, shortens examination time, and reduces operator dependency. FINE has recently been shown to have high sensitivity (98%) and specificity (93%) for the detection of congenital heart disease.
