It's Deer Season, but are hunting stands just for "hunting"? In this video, I show how to assemble the Tripod Hunting Stand, but also find other uses for it, such as supporting a honeybee swarm collection box.
See this stand on Amazon at: amzn.to/2GZiBe3
There were so many gripes and complaints from people regarding the sparse instructions with this stand, so I decided to show how I put it together.
The Box and Listing where I purchased it states "13 foot Tripod Stand"
All of these measurements are with the adjustable legs at shortest setting and rail at lowest setting as shown in this video.
Ground to Platform: 9 feet
Ground to top of rail: 11 feet
Footprint: ladder leg to side leg 9 feet
distance between both back legs 8 feet
Maximum hunter and gear weight capacity is 300 lbs.
Can adjust to uneven ground with telescoping legs with pads that accommodate 2 foot ground spikes included.
I did not use the included padded seat and padded back.. very flimsy and cheap pads.
I paid $174.99 with free shipping.
I wish they sold a taller version as I wanted to have my honeybee swarm box up at around 13-16 feet for optimal feral bee swarm habitation.
This is at a woodland edge on my property, facing a southern clearing which I think will be scouted by swarms first.

My uncle & i add cedar fence planks to 3 sides. Provides coverage & blocks a good bit of north wind.

Well done. I’m Outing out swarm boxes and may think of this as a possible solution.

Hi Kevin, I will definitely make a follow-on video to show how it does or doesn't work. I have placed a 8-frame swarm box up there as of yesterday... way early, but you can never be sure that bees won't swarm. Plus, as soon as I do get a swarm, I can just replace the box right away and have another one ready. Best of luck to you!

I just did one of these two days ago (but the 16'), and the nuts and bolts were perfect. All US sized nuts and bolts. The problem came in with the struts, which are more complicated for the 16'. Wouldn't have thought of putting my swarm trap up there in the off season. Higher is better for swarm traps? I usually mount mine at about 6'.

Bow hunting no - swarm box you could add an extension - and a few sunrise's with a hot drink- sure ! I wonder if a few tweaks would tighten it up - another set of braces running around would make a big diff. But that's a 9 foot stand !

Definitely, if they added diagonal cross braces it would be more stable.

$15 - Three tubes with flatten ends and 6 bolts . . . Six (if they were connected in the middle) and you could launch a rocket from it....

Thank you very much for the video! Do u happen to know how high the adjustable shooting rail is in its highest position (from the floor)? Trying to see if it’s a comfortable shooting height for me.

I have 5 traps in somme tall oaks in a forest but no success in the last 2 years. They have old combs inside and a pierced ziplock bag with a napkin and swarm lure essential oil that i refresh each year.Im affraid i might have installed them too high .Back at home i have another 2 traps installed but in carpathian walnut trees ( tallest trees i have) and i think its possible that bees might not like walnut trees much.Somme people here say the bees move after a while under a walnut but i know they also collect walnut pollen so i think it shouldnt be that bad for the bees.

My swarm trap experiment was a complete fail I'm afraid. I had better luck just having them sitting a couple of feet off the ground. Figures.
