Sounds almost like the plot of the anime, "So Now I'm a Spider... " On another note, I've often said that if reincarnation is real & I come back as a spider, (like in the aforementioned anime), I was going to crawl to the nearest lake and toss myself in (after a good hysterical cry)... but now that I have learned of the Darvaza Gas Crater, at least I know that I have another option. LOL!!!

I saw the Catacombs when I was working in Palermo a few years ago. The bodies are literally upon the wall so that they're all slightly above your eye level as you walk around. I couldn't decide what was creepier: the dead bodies or the nonchalance of the tourists walking around and taking pictures.

I live about an hour and a half from Centralia and have been there several times. The idea of Centralia is a lot more interesting than the reality of it at this point. The graffiti highway was buried with tons of dirt last year and there are basically no buildings left. It was interesting to visit, but the local government doesn't want people going there and has taken great lengths to try to remove it from existence.
@CaptainSouthbird
@CaptainSouthbird 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was gonna say this. I'm not as close usually (SWPA resident) but my mom is from a town adjacent to Centralia, so I'm intimately familiar and usually in the area at least once a year for family stuff. Centralia was exciting in the 1980s and maybe 90s as it bled out but there's really nothing there now. The "graffiti highway" was probably the last interesting thing to see, and now it's gone. The spectacular visuals of great cracks of fire opening in the ground has largely diminished. There's probably still a few smokey areas to be found but it's really nothing like KZfaq keeps rehashing these days. The state made good on tearing down every house and other building as people left / died / were forced out. Maybe the old borough building still remains? I don't even know. If you're on one of the roads passing through Centralia you probably won't even notice it unless you're looking for it.

You sadly cannot visit the Beelitz Heilstätten ruins freely anymore. There is a new investor in place who fenced of the area and built a treetop walkway with an entrance fee that leads over the tops of the buildings. Apart from that the only way to get inside is a guided tour. I've been inside before the new owner and after. The walkway is worth it though.

Uhm.... no its not. There is absolutely no law that prevents you from visiting state owned land, much less Centralia . HOWEVER, if you get into any kind of trouble, be it medical, vehicle or crime related, don't expect help to be on the way. While you are allowed to go there, the State of PA HIGHLY recommends you do not due to the dangers inherit in visiting what is basically a disaster zone and will implicitly warn you that you are visiting at your own peril.

Have taken over 20 trips on the Yungas Road. It is not quite as nice as you said. 😊 The Road is either very dusty or muddy with water streaming down the mountain side. Starts at 15,000 ft to sea-level . Takes- depending on many factors - about 16 non stop hours. Look down at clouds and egales from the top view. Initially vehicles going up had right of way. Thus meant that vehicles going down had to pull over really close to edge and see blue sky........ looking down! Yes, it is scary. Also from the 1st 8,000 feet or so hard to breath.- good times. [P.S. one of the "safer" thingsbI did 😎]

Pripyat is actually only two syllables. The first syllable is close enough to the English prefix "Pre-". The second syllable is a bit like, if you take the word "yacht" and stick a P on the front of it. So, "Pre-PYAHT." That's admittedly not perfect, but it's closer than one listicle that pronounced it more like "papaya." 😆

You ever just turn off all the lights at bedtime expecting to go to bed but you have to go to the bathroom. Rather then turn on the lights you leave them off and go to the bathroom. Then you forgot how dark it was and walk through the dark super scared and hop in your bed then just try to hide
